Cue Submission - WAV or MP3?

Post by BradGray » Wed Mar 11, 2020 2:27 pm

Hey Peeps,

Quick question - does it matter what format I submit with; MP3 or Wav file? I have done mp3, but wav is always preferable but it takes a 5Mb soundfile to a 100Mb soundfile to post.

Does it matter to the screeners?

Thoughts and/or experience?

Thanks,
Brad

I've recently been wondering about this, too, especially in light of the recent metadata discussion on Taxi TV.

Curious to read the input of some of the more experienced Taxi members than I am.

MP3

If you export a 320k MP3 most folks can't tell the difference from a WAV

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've just noticed that the sound quality, after posting to the site, seems to be of lower quality. Is it a setting somewhere that I'm missing? I thought it was something they had upgraded last fall.

Just tryin' to put my best foot forward.

Very true. But I noticed something strange in the taxi website. When you upload mp3s at any bitrate, taxi converts the file to 128kbps. I noticed it after I heard considerable perceivable difference in the high frequencies.

This is the topic I started, It still remains s mystery to me.

Also, since Michal mentioned about metadata, I wanted to put forward another thing I noticed.
whatever metadata you embedded in your mp3 file gets replaced with Taxi default values. Does this mean that there is no point in working on metadata ourselves?

I too am curious to listen to what other experienced taxi members has to say.

About the metadata: not sure how relevant that is at the submission stage, if a library then goes on to sign our tracks, then it becomes crucial. Either it is the library to do that on our behalf or they simply ask us to carry out that task.
Just my opinion :)

I've been using 192kbps mp3's on Taxi for about 15 years.
They are fine.
And like Superkons alluded to.... metadata in the mp3 is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than the metadata that will be added to a track once it is accepted by a show or library.
That is a completely seperate process.

My mp3 cents worth,
Tim

What I originally meant with embedding metadata in the MP3s that we submit to Taxi relates to what Michael has mentioned a few times on the Taxi TV.

He says the metadata should include at least the name of the composer and their email address. Even though Taxi does supply the libraries with all the necessary contact info when forwarding tracks, the contact metadata should still be there just in case the additional info from Taxi gets lost in the process.

So, I was wondering if you guys and gals do that - whether you fill in your contact info in the MP3s that you submit. I have submitted about 35 tracks so far and I've never done that till now...

Oh, yes, I do include my name and my contact information. A few times I have forgotten to do that
