Morning all (at least it is where I come from)!I've been reading about the art of "cutting up" this morning...never heard of this before. Basically taking pieces of writing, cutting out titles, phrases, words and mixing them up in a box. Then pulling them out one by one and fitting or trying to fit them together. From this you can work with whatever these mix matches inspire you to do.Has anyone ever tried this and had any success? It certainly makes for a new approach!Lindsey.

I've done something similar with my word processor and some 'random phrasing' program I worked out. It didn't result in a whole song, but it did generate some real cool lines and killer pop cult phrases, especially in trying to say something that is hip right now... I think its a very viable way to weave freshness into your ideas.ArkJack

William Burroughs was the big guru of that sort of thing. I agree with Arkjack though--I have used it and find it fun as an inspirational tool. You find phrases that get you thinking "I wonder what the heck that could mean?"

Actually giving it some thought, here's a link to a song I wrote that used that principle. Be interested in your comments as well. http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... rueArkJack
