Dark Orchestral Track

Post by stephendbennett » Mon Jan 06, 2014 2:20 pm

Hey all! I have a piece titled "Poor Soul' that I want to submit to the DARK ORCHESTRAL TRACK URGENTLY NEEDED listing but I am wondering if it doesn't sound "Apocalyptic" enough?

For Taxi Listing #U140108IN

DARK, OMINOUS ORCHESTRAL INSTRUMENTAL Tracks are U-R-G-E-N-T-L-Y needed by an A-LIST MUSIC SUPERVISOR working on a MAJOR STUDIO FEATURE FILM. He's searching for Mid-to-Up Tempo Instrumentals in the general stylistic ballpark of composers like Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, Brian Tyler, Pete Anthony, etc.

This is for a very specific scene in a film where the lead character is playing a very dark, ominous video game, and the supervisor needs music that sounds like it would be the soundtrack to that game.

Quoting The Music Supervisor: "I need over the top, apocalyptic tracks that will immediately give the listener the sense that they're multiple levels deep into the strange, shadowy world of a super-intense video game."

Hello Stephen -

Like the track. Gotta love putting it in 5! Yeah, man.

I like the way it starts out and builds up to the main theme at :12. Really nice. I also like the change at :23 back to the softer opening. And a nice change again around :33.

Overall, the balance is really nice. Horns sound great, strings work well. Percussion is good. What would it sound like with a bit more of the horns around :53? I think you could really bring them out there and let them shine. I like the doubling with the strings, but I could use more brass right there.

I don't know if it is bombastic or apocalyptic enough for the listing. I think it works well as a Hero's theme kind of setting - But I don't hear this one as "over the top".

A great track!

cheers -

I would tend to agree with Kayle. Extremely well done but sounds more epic than dark to me; although some places do have a somber tone. I'm trying to work on something myself and wonder how to focus on the "over the top" thing. We'll see.....
