Wonder how you read this?
Going for light and fun, 8th note rock groove.
Anywhere it gets too corny?
Any "clunker" lines?
Dark Shades

Some days I need to hide
Stay low to fend off bad luck
Sweet girls can’t get to me
No one can kiss nor make me hurt
Dark shades will hide my eyes
Cover me from lovesick vibes, uh huh huh
They’re my armor, they’re my shield
I wear dark shades to make sweet love yield
Dark shades to make sweet love yield
Dark shades to make sweet love yield
Got real good stuff inside
Need to watch it from pouring out
Don’t want an emptied heart
So no blondes or reds here’s allowed
Dark shades will hide my eyes
Cover me from lovesick vibes, uh huh huh
They’re my armor, they’re my shield
I wear dark shades to make sweet love yield
Dark shades to make sweet love yield
Dark shades to make sweet love yield
I save my love for only one
Till then I need to hold on
Only when we are alone
I’ll drop my guard, but for now
Dark shades will hide my eyes
Cover me from lovesick vibes, uh huh huh
They’re my armor, they’re my shield
I wear dark shades to make sweet love yield
Dark shades will hide my eyes
Cover me from lovesick vibes, uh huh huh
They’re my armor, they’re my shield
I wear dark shades to make sweet love yield
Dark shades to make sweet love yield
Dark shades to make sweet love yield

Re: Dark Shades (lyric only)
Hi,
Yeah, it does give off an 80's vibe, it's all about hiding what's inside, just like the 80's did. Lots of fashion and shallowness.
There are a few paradoxes in the lyrics:
You say 'Some days I need to hide' but then the rest of the song suggests it's more of a permanent mask so
'Sweet girls can’t get to me
No one can kiss nor make me hurt'.
As an opening line of a rock song, it's a little weak. This is a guy in leather with shades like armour and a shield like a soldier, he should be cool and strutting around, but he's kinda hiding like a girl.
I can't quite work out how covering up and hiding and putting up armour and a shield is going to 'make sweet love yield'. The singer is totally guarded against everything, afraid to let it out, so it doesn't draw the lister in, there's just a wall. So it leaves me a bit empty. It's a rock song but the premise of the song isn't rock.
The more interesting part is what looks like a bridge:
'I save my love for only one
Till then I need to hold on
Only when we are alone
I’ll drop my guard, but for now'
Although this bit doesn't have a rhyme structure, it does promise that there's something underneath the mask. I want to know who this woman is and why you're saving yourself for her. What has she got that will take this hard as rock screaming singer wearing his shades like armour and open him up and blow his mind? And what will it leave behind?
That's how I read it. I hope that's OK with you, I say as I see.
Good luck with the writing.

Thanks a lot for those generous thoughts, Andrew.
Lots of good stuff for rewriting to ponder about.
Appreciate you took the time!
