DAW Lock Up
I am wondering if anybody else has had this problem and if so, is there a fix. I notice when I start my DAW it will sometimes quickly freeze up requiring a hard reboot. If I am playing an audio file at the time it will generally just start going into a fast loop of the most recent note played. After two or three restarts it works fine. I first thought it might be a mouse problem as it tended to happen when the mouse was in motion but this is not always the case. I have a quad core machine running Windows XP Service Pack 3 with a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse and 4GB of RAM. I also run Cakewalk Sonar 6 PE along with a host of samples and other plug ins. I don't think it is related to any of this stuff because it happens pretty early on and most of the time before I have even opened up the applications.Any Ideas? Thanks,Kurt

Re: DAW Lock Up
Do you ever freeze up at any other time? What is your audio interface? This sounds like a driver problem or hardware issue to me. Try uninstalling your present interface completely and just use your computer's onboard soundcard (if it has one), or none at all. Then see if you still freeze up. If this still occurs even when your interface is removed and uninstalled from your computer, then it would most likely be some kind of hardware problem. However, it is worth reinstalling Sonar first before you try all this, as well.

I put the kettle on, it didn't suit me.

Re: DAW Lock Up
Thanks Zircon and Dave for taking the time to give me your thoughts. It ususally happens within a few minutes of booting up. Sometimes it happens before Windows is finished loading. This usually occurs after I have done a hard reboot. When this happens I get the typical "Windows Failed to Start Normally" message providing me options such as Start Normally, Last Known Good Configuration, etc..As I mentioned above, this only happens within a few minutes of the initial start up of the machine and after 1 or 2 hard reboots it does not happen again. It is nothing more than an annoyance at this point. I am using the onboard soundcard and the ctrl, alt, delete does not work once it freezes up. I do believe it is probably a driver issue of some kind. I am still leaning towards the mouse as I have been reading on some other forums about some driver issues with wireless mouses which seem to be creating the same kind of problems. I think I'll give a new mouse and driver a try and see if that fixes the problem. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks Again,Kurt

Re: DAW Lock Up
I read on the digifreq.com forum that SP3 and SONAR don't get along. A reinstall back to SP2 might solve your problems.
