Different Versions???

Hello!!Has anybody submitted the same song but different version to a listing?? Example an instrumental song with the melody covered by guitar on version 1 and an organ on version 2? and... has anyone posted the same song to multiple listings??thanks Mike

Same song to multiple listings as long as the song matches what the listing is looking for.Remember you're pitching your song to as many opportunities as you can (opportunities that match the song or the other way around). Unless you sign an "exclusive" with a publisher, library, or record label (meaning that only they have the exclusive rights to market the song), then you really want to pitch it to as many relevant opportunities as possible.I always say with a bit of fun, when it comes to marketing our music... "Think like an assertive music publisher, not like a shy musician".

The same principle can sometimes apply to vocal tunes, too. I submitted the same blues track with two completely different lyrics to a film listing. Or, you may have both "unplugged" and "plugged" versions of a song.

Dave,I've always wondered "what to do" in this scenario. Maybe you can shed some light.Let's say, over the course of a year, that my song "Black Eye" received 7 forwards and placement with three libraries A, B, and C as non-exclusive deals. Library "A" actually saw a bit of action with 30 seconds of my song being used, once, in an ESPN production. Knowing that my song isn't virgin... should I avoid submitting "Black Eye" to any *Exclusive* listings? If you already have the piece licensed non-exclusively, it wouldn't be something you could license exclusively.

IMO it's better to submit 2 different pieces, just because you have more chances of a forward with something else if there's something wrong with the duplicated submission.Yes, I've submitted the same song(s) to mutiple listings (and been forwarded), as long as it seems on target for the listing it's been submitted to. Silence - I wouldn't submit an already licenced non-exclusively piece to a listing that wants an exclusive deal.

And actually had both versions forwarded to the same listing. I'm currently working on the arrangements of four different versions of a song (an instrumental) that's already been forwarded 3 times.
