direct rec'ding w/guitar pedals... which?

I've done a bit of re-amping but always with a line out from the computer. The re-amping boxes (one of the links I posted above has Radial's version) actually takes the line signal and converts it to more of a guitar pickup level signal. Apparently that makes a difference as the amp input sees a signal that it is more used to seeing (guitar) rather than a line level signal which it's really not designed to accept. Electrically it makes sense, I don't know how it works in practice but I'd like to hear from someone who has used one of these boxes to get their opinion. I don't record guitar enough to warrant investing in one at this time.Cheers,Mazz

I always record a direct straight off the guitar... and the split is always before the signal hits his pedal board. Probably 75% of the time I record an amp, I end up needing to use that direct and AmpFarm in ProTools to get it right in the mix. Sometimes it's AmpFarm alone, sometimes I'm just using AmpFarm to add a little more bite, or top, or whatever the live amp lacks. I think given time to mess with amp/mic/settings combinations, good sound could be had from the amps, but it always seems like I'm cutting all the guitars for a 10 song record in 10 hours, so futzing with amps is too slow. AmpFarm is my weapon of choice. Well, AmpFarm and a few other plugs... often compression before AmpFarm, sometimes delay, reverb (to put the "amp" in a recording room), eq, hi-pass, lo-pass, compression, tape saturation, etc.

if you're software based... amplitube 2 is pretty good... but lets be honest I think if we all had access to the vintage les paul and the marshall stack in an awesome sounding room... surely there would only be one winner!

Here are a couple of guitar based tunes I did with the VG88."Soul Fire" is trying to capture a vintage Santana vibe."Adventures" is a surf guitar on steroids attempt.
