Disappointed to say the least...

Post by AndyKotz » Fri Feb 18, 2011 12:35 pm

Dear Andy,

We listened carefully to your song(s) listed below, but unfortunately,
it wasn't right on target for listing #Y110207JZ:
Swing It, Baby!

Sincerely,
Your friends at TAXI

Here's the link to the track:
http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_7313847

and the listing info:
CONTEMPORARY "BRAT-PACK STYLE" JAZZ SONGS and/or INSTRUMENTALS a la Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Tommy Dorsey, etc., needed IMMEDIATELY by a TOP HOLLYWOOD MUSIC SUPERVISOR for a MAJOR NETWORK TELEVISION DRAMA. Small combos or big band ensembles are OK. Quoting the Music Supervisor here: "The songs should have a HIP, COOL STYLE with a RETRO VIBE" that feels like Vegas baby! Tracks should have SWINGING MELODIES and BIG CHORUS HOOKS. If sending in songs with vocals, a CLEVER/WITTY lyrical twist will help add to the "hip factor." Broadcast Quality is needed (excellent home recordings are fine)...
To say that I'm "disappointed" is an understatement... I don't how much closer to "target" one could be. Especially since I have worked in Las Vegas (at Caesar's Palace in the '90's) playing guitar in show/big bands and thought I nailed it stylistically... -- Andy

Hi Andy,

I listened to this and I think it - and you - are AWESOME!!

This is only one listing and if the client happens to be looking for a certain vibe that isn't contained in this fabulous piece, well, that's just a matter of "fit" for this one opportunity. There'll be more, and you'll be perfect for somebody!

Is it possible they are looking for something edgier? Could they be into drier sounding productions? It's as hard to know this in advance as it is knowing how to impress someone on a first date.

Be proud! You know how good you are! How could you not know... stuff as good as this is no accident!

Good Luck,
Allen

I listened to about 30 seconds...and I didn't get a late 50's early 60's brat pack feel from this. I got a 40's big band feel from what I heard. I expected the brat pack to be a bit more uptempo.... horns... trumpets, trombones, sax, and swinging it..... I'm seeing Las Vegas in the 60;s and this didn't take me there.....

STILL... this is a very good song.... but not on target for this listing. I think you can probably place this in a listing for big band requirements..... I thought I heard a clarinet, and that was used alot in the big bands.

I went back and listened to more..... the horns did come in and they were ok.... sounded a bit too good.... synthy, not organic ...the playing is good man! I do think this is big band as opposed to brat pack jazz..... look for a big band listing and try that....I've seen some here from time to time.
