Dixie 'N Me - Country

Post by distortionjunkie » Fri Feb 04, 2011 6:14 am

Go ahead and slaughter it up.

DIXIE 'N ME

Verse 1
I’m at her rickety front door sweatin
Waitin for her to say somethin
While mama’s yellin from the kitchen
Over a hot supper cookin
Don’ just stand there let the boy in let the boy in

Chorus
This is all about Dixie n’ me
Dixie n' me
Dixie n' me
This is all about Dixie n’ me
She’s my hometown country girl

Verse 2
While waitin for supper
We go out back and sit on the porch swing
Where we hold hands
And gaze up at night stars
Talkin bout fishin lines and fun dance bars

Chorus
This is all about Dixie n’ me
Dixie n' me
Dixie n' me
This is all about Dixie n’ me
She’s my hometown country girl

Verse 3
The moment is right
To give her a sweet kiss
An’ now am fallin in love
With Dixie the girl of my dreams
An’ all I want to do is hold on to her forever it seems

Chorus
This is all about Dixie n’ me
Dixie n' me
Dixie n' me
This is all about Dixie n’ me
She’s my hometown country girl

Verse 4
Sittin in the small town diner
I don’t say nothin
Dixie don’t say nothin
An’ this dates just playin cards it’s a pig bluffin

Chorus
This is all about Dixie n’ me
Dixie n' me
Dixie n' me
This is all about Dixie n’ me
She’s my hometown country girl

Verse 5
Dixie ran home
Cryin to her mama I hate myself
I never wanna go on dates no more
Mama picked up her ironboard and said
That’s what I told my mama then I met your papa whom I adore

Chorus
This is all about Dixie n’ me
Dixie n' me
Dixie n' me
This is all about Dixie n’ me
She’s my hometown country girl

This would be a fun straight up folk song if you put it into an AAA format (which would allow for 5 verses) and used the "dixie and me" as the repeated refrain at the end of each verse.

That's interesting, Prinefan. I hadn't thought of that, AAA. I think I've been working too close with it to do anymore thinking with it. That's why I came here. Get a breath of fresh air, ya know? You mentioned folk -- I was thinking country. Was it the metering that made you think of folk?

AAA would be the only structure that could handle 5 verses. The ABACB or ABAB that's big in country wouldn't allow for so many verses.

Best of luck.

Can you help me out. I'm a little confused as to why only AAA would work because I modeled this song after John Ims's "She's In Love With The Boy" which has the ABC ABC ABC structure: http://www.taxi.com/music-business-faq/ ... theboy.php

http://www.lyrics.com/shes-in-love-with ... rwood.html

I did not know how many verses it would take to get my story out. It just ended up being 5 verses. I am no expert at songwriting by any stretch of the imagination, but I do know that if I was to chop this up and tighten it up, it would probably ruin the story. I blindly inserted the choruses for no other reason than trying to stick to a traditional structure. Also, the only reason my song does not have pre-choruses like Ims's song, is because I have absolutely no idea what the job of a pre-chorus is, or what its purpose is, and I do not know how to write one.

"She's in love with the boy" is 3 verses with 3 repeated CH sections.

Thanks for pointing this out to me.

1) So pre-choruses in songs are counted as just one entire chorus, correct?

2) Also, number of phrases in a verse has no limitation beyond the fact of minutes the song lasts, correct? In other words I could take this Dixie song and combine verses to shorten it up in order that it be acceptable for country, correct?
