Do you have an experience with Songlink?

Post by lovefilmmusic » Wed Nov 20, 2013 8:14 pm

May I ask if anyone here has ever used Songlink, tipsheet service for music publishers and songwriters, providing monthly listings ("leads") about recording artists looking for songs or co-writers.

They said, "Every month we send out around 50-60 new leads detailing what kind of music is required for each project, along with direct contacts for the artists' manager, label, producer or whoever is placing the lead, usually with their e-mail address and the artist website details."

Is it a good and effective service or is it mainly a waste of time and money?

My sincere thanks,

Not correct . Songlink have been around for a good 20 years or so and I know quite a few hit songwriters who have been members at one time. While I've never actually been a member myself I got a call from Universal Music Germany on a co-write several years ago (my co-writer was a member) and I know others who've had cuts through them.

It's different to Taxi in the sense that they send opportunities and that's about it. Don't know how they're doing in the current climate but Songlink has been used extensively by a lot of publishers and other professionals in UK for many years.

Thank you so much. If you have any latest info, pls share. The problem is, when I try to google about Songlink, apparently there is nothing new for the past one year.

I belonged to them for a time a few years ago. You pay to be a member, they provide a regular contact list for opportunities, you submit on your own. There is no feedback from anyone unless the contact is interested in your music. A lot of the contacts are in the UK or Europe (naturally), so add the cost of sending CDs outside of the country. I belonged back at the beginning of my songwriting career, and I can't remember now how many submissions I made, a few. I had a couple of responses but no deals at the time. I don't think my music was at the right level at that point, so I can't really comment on whether it's a good vehicle or not.

This is very helpful. Based on your experience, is it correct to say that you always have the contact info to send the songs to? Do you think these days, most would prefere to hear your songs sent by email or a link to Soundcloud?

Taxi really doesn't want us discussing other song pitching companies on this forum. I don't make the rules, just sayin...

Regards,
I doubt they want songs by email. A CD is likely required unless they are willing to accept links to music online. For myself, not having any indication that a submission was received and recieving no feedback on my submissions, made me feel I was just another person in the slush file as far as I could see.
