Does AC/DC write ALL their own songs?

Post by ernstinen » Sat Feb 28, 2009 7:45 pm

You probably know that I'm EXTREMELY eclectic in my musical tastes! The other day, I woke up with an original "AC/DC" song in my head. That band is my "guilty pleasure," and this tune is right down their alley.Does anyone know if they do covers of other songwriters' material? I doubt it, but I'm just wonderin'.I hear it like more of a Bon Scott (R.I.P.) style vocal, and I'm not sure I can sing it and make it work. Before I hire a singer, I'd like to know if I'm barking up the wrong tree.BTW, the title of the song is "Soup To Nuts." Sounds like an AC/DC song title, don't it!? Another example of Aussie sexual innuendo. Thanks in advance,Ern

I don't think they've ever used any outside material, other than the cover of Muddy Waters' "Baby, Please Don't Go" from '74 Jailbreak, (I think it's also the only time Malcolm ever soloed) but I believe a film/TV listing for an AC/DC soundalike is bound to pop up sooner or later.

Bon Scott is the best.... So many great AC/DC tunes out there that never make the airwaves..... like "Whats next to the Moon"I've always been suspicious that most of 'Back in Black' was probably written before Bons death.. (even though Bons that on that album).... Its' just too dam good, in comparison with what came after. I'm farily confident they write everyting, Angus's quiet brother is the power rythem master writer...

From what I've read, the band wrote the material after Bon died, and then went to England to try out lead singers. When they tried out Brian Johnson, he was freaked out 'cause he was just a bar-band singer, AND the group had written songs with no lyrics and expected him to be the lyricist, which was new to him! But to his surprise, the lyrics just flowed out after he heard the music. And two of my favorite "team-player" heroes are Malcolm Young and Frank Sampedro from Neil Young's band. It's like double-tracked rhythm guitar "live." What a great sound to have the rhythm guitar player lose his ego like that! As John Lennon once said, "someone's gotta play the fu*kin' chords! Ern
