I was running a little test this mornig using the Orb - function of Omnishere and adding the orb-switches manually on the bass. Then I added some more spheric dark sounds. I wonder if this kind of style stil fits into dupstep ? What you guys think ? I must admit I am really weak in getting genres under one hat. For me musis is creativity with the 12 notes which are given :D

Here's now this test... really a fast and raw mix but this kind of style I would love : http://www.music-pictures.com/dupstep_beta1.mp3

Hi Hans,

it sounds nice, very cinematic, could even be game music, but in and of itself it's not dubstep (though it could easily lead into a massive bass drop). But that's ok. Use dub instruments in ways that make sense for you and work in with what you want to achieve.

Thanks for the link to the Omnisphere video - it may come in handy for me whilst working through this stuff. I do, however, realize that it is really an "ad" for Spectrasonics and they're certainly making it seem so much more easily achievable than can be done in four minutes of our time.

Continued good luck to you with this and definitely enjoy the learning process - it'll make you that much stronger in everything you do going forward.

Actually the Orb function in Omnishere is really cool. I still did not get it how to programm it precisely but you can really make things in a few minutes. This little demo took me 15 minutes.

@Rob : Thanks for the feedback. Actually it would come this way when I would work with these Wooblebasses. So the name of the genre is Massive drop bass ? :)

Best

Z3ta+2 is a great little piece of software for Dub. It's very "visual" so a bit easier to get jist of the requisite tweaking.

hey Hans,

Ahh no, what I meant was that the snippet you posted could be from a number of genres. On its own it's not necessarily dubstep. But if you followed it with a dubstep bass drop, then it would be dubstep. :)

Now I got it - googled the expression now and heard some samples. Sounds like another programming skill to learn. The pitch wheel is not enough for this, since it only makes a whole tone pitch shift. Sounds like a whammy bar on the guitar - just with bass now. :D
