Dystopian Christmas

Post by VanderBoegh » Mon Nov 15, 2021 9:57 pm

Hey everyone! I've been MIA from these forums for waaaay too damn long. Gonna make it a point to be a more regular presence again. I've missed you all!

Anyway, figured I'd say hi to all my old friends and share this dystopian Christmas track

Happy holidays!

~~Matt

Hi Matt,

QUESTION:
The call for this says, "Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best."

So would you create a separate stinger for this or just use the ending on this track?

Thanks,
Tim

Thanks everyone, it's good to be back! And Tim, in answer to your question

That ending piano run that starts at 1:00 is a stinger ending. It could even be lopped off further to start at 1:02. There's even a bonus 8-second sting ending right in the middle of the cue, from :24-:32.

A fade-out is something completely different. Sure, that last note of my cue does "fade-out", but it's more of a ring-out. A real "fade-out" ending is one where the music just keeps playing a passage, and the volume steadily drops away to nothing, even though the music is still chugging along. That type of thing was way more common in mainstream music from the 70's & 80's. An example that springs to mind right away is the ending of Meat Loaf's "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". Hope that helps make sense of it all!

Welcome back, Matt! It's great to see you here again! :)

Lovely piece! The Smilies should include a heart for pieces we love! You'll just have to imagine it!

Love it when everything starts to pop around 15 seconds. I can so hear this being used ... music for grinches and Christmas creeps.

Hey maybe there'll be yet another Home Alone sequel next year.
