EastWest Installation advise please
Hi all, I posted here a while ago having probs with EastWest on Cubase because it hadn't installed correctly. Well, ok, I hadn't installed it correctly, evidently. Soooo anyhows, I've been struggling along, but finally decided to uninstall everything and start again. Now, Matto, and other knowledgable gurus... when I install it asks me to name the location twice - the first time it asks where to put EW..Gold and the second time where to put the EW gold plug-in. So am I right in thinking that the second time is where I select the Steinberg/cubase/vst plugin folder? What do I do for the first selection - ? Sorry to be so sad that I can't even install the thing without help Thanks for any guidance you can give me...Georginasaint

Yeah when it asks where you wanna install the library (which should be on a different Hard Drive - install it in an organised folder e.g. Libaries/EastWest/Orchestra or sumin), the Plug-In installation is wherever all your cubase vsts/plugins are kept.Hope that HelpsB

Thanks aimusic. I'm understanding it more now. My second hard drive is set up as a "recovery" and is complely full. I don't want to erase things because i have no idea what I'm doing. I suspect my Windows is held on the second drive, possibly. I ran EW on the same drive before and sometimes playback stopped and all the notes piled up, I assume that's a memory issue. Would that stop if I put it on the second hard drive? (I'm on Vista btw)

(I'm on Vista btw)oh no, the dreaded Vista I have 3 SATA drives. C Drive, is for my programs. E drive, is for my samples (East West, etc). F drive is for my projects. So the East West "program" is on my main drive. The samples I have saved to the E drive. Then I went into my recording software and told it where the plug-ins were.Sounds to me like you need more memory & perhaps more Ram, and/or a faster processor. You might want to get an external harddrive for backing up. You can likely get a 500GB for a reasonable price now.H

Hi Hummingbird, I think you're right and I'm looking into getting an external drive now. I have a brand new laptop so I'm thinking the processor is fast... So could I load all my EastWest sounds onto the external drive and run it from there? In case I'm right in thinking Windows is on my second drive. Eeeeeek, it's all a bit worrisome! It's so frustrating - so many things I want to write pieces for and submit to Taxi and I can't seem to make headway at the moment, though I got one piece of orchestral done with my previous set-up, out of sheer determination....

Use the external drive to *back up* your data and remove it from your second SATA drive. Then use that drive for your samples. An additional option (I think) would be to take your tower into a reputable computer store and ask them to add another internal SATA drive for you, and while you're there, get them to add 2 GBs of ram. But even then, I would recommend the external drive(s) for back-ups.You should have 3 drives, as I have mentioned above, plus the external drive for back-ups.

Re: EastWest Installation advise please
I'm streaming samples from an external Glyph firewire drive with absolutely no problem.I ran out of hard drive space for sample libraries. I also wanted to try doing this from an external drive with the idea that when I replace my computer I won't have to reload Gigs and Gigs of sample libraries. I'll just disconnect the drive from my old computer and attach to the new and point the program to the correct drive to find the samples.Chuck

Oh yeah, Chuck so you've got a Glyph huh? What model do you have? I'm definitely gonna' get my hands on one of those eventually.Vikki, I think the Glyphs are designed ta' handle the kinda' stuff we're doin' versus say an external hard drive from Best Buy or someplace like that. I've been looking into these, and I think they'll do well ta' handle all of our sample libraries. They're not cheap though! Check 'em out if you're not already familiar.http://www.sweetwater.com/store/manufacturer/GlyphI-468

(when I posted my specs & plan to use an external hard drive for samples last January 2007, prior to getting my custom build, I was advised to get a SATA drive instead of a external drive for samples. Perhaps these were not in vogue then. In any case, I'm glad I got the extra drive.)
