Quote:I've taken a listen to them and I think they sound rather decent and a bonus is that I can buy them for my GiGastudio, so now I don't have to feel like I waisted cash on buying that....And they don't seem to be that badly priced as well... Anyone used them? I wish I could spend someone elses cash... One note: If I'm not mistaken Ruby has some advanced programming that uses scripting which is only available in the Kontakt version. If you're considering buying it I would email Kirk and have him tell you exactly what the difference between the formats is.

Quote:Forgetting about Platinum for the moment, Gold sounds GREAT. Several of us in the forum use or have been using it (me, Matto, Ernstinen off the top of my head). Ern does full orchestral compositions with Gold that are very impressive and convincing. Gold is definitely a "pro's" orchestral package but with the advantage that it runs on normal computers. Thanks for the compliment, Dave! I bought a VisionDAW to run Gold, and they said I'd need two of them to fully utilize the library. I don't --- one nice PC is enough, although I run another for my GigaStudio libraries. When I first bought Gold, I couldn't figure out how to "turn off the reverb." Well, you CAN'T --- the ambience is built-in to the samples. But now I think it's great. I use a little reverb on my dry samples to blend them in with Gold, and it works well. Ya can't go wrong with Gold, IMHO.Ern

another option is Miroslav Philharmonik...can't tell you how it is, but I got a crossgrade price which was very fair, so I went for it. Comes in a couple days.

Except that, man... studios are a flippin' black hole! I can think of 6 things I "need". This is #7.I still might do it though... cb

Hi, All. Yesterday, I started another thread on "Edirol HQ", but it only took a couple of expert replies to convince me that I ought to start thinking really hard about the more expensive but much more fulfilling EWQL packages instead. I started out thinking about Silver, but then I stumbled upon THIS thread. Sure enough, it appears that most everyone waxes eloquent about the Gold and Platinum Packages. I note that EWQL's Gold Package currently is available for $445 at http://www.soundsonline.com/EWQLSO-Gold ... PROB1.html As far as I can tell, price-wise this is the most attractive offering du jour. All things considered, this appears to be the way I'm gonna spend the $$$ I haven't yet got, but, then, what is money for?Best to all for a happy and productive 2008.-Alan (backtalkunlimited)* * *

Alan,We've been down this road before and if you can scrape together the bucks for Gold you gotta do it. Your music deserves the best face you can put on it. Once you learn to manipulate Gold, you'll never look back and you'll never remember trying to squeeze gold out of an out of date Roland.Nothing ventured, nothing gained.Mazz

REPLY TO MAZZ: You know, I'd like to argue strenuously with you, but I really don't have a leg to stand on.Actually, the situation lies closer to squeezing blood out of a turnip - here, I'm referring both to Gold vs. Roland and to $$$ vs. Alan. Given the percentage royalty that I enjoy, can you imagine how many single digital downloads of my music from iTunes (at 99 cents a shot retail) will be required to pay for EWQLSO Gold Bundle? And, given the finite nature of one's lifetime, it hurts just to think about it!I leave you with that thought for the day. Cheers.-Alan (backtalkunlimited)

What mazz says about having more than one library is absolutely right. Platinum is worth having too, but you get a much richer sound with more choices when you combine libs. You should also look at some of the VSL stuff and Sonic Implants (www.Sonivoxrock.com), although SI is more expensive...or I should say they don't have a cheap version; VSL is very expensive if you get everything too.

I just got the Kirk Hunter library which ships on a cool little hard drive, and a quick audition of the patches makes me think that it's going to add a very nice dimension in conjunction with the East West library. The strings seem very playable with some pretty intuitive use of keyswitches and controllers. I'll post some new music using it when I get a chance to write some. The flute sounds really awesome!Must sleep, must sleep, must sleep........:)Mazz
