electronica with environmental samples
Hey there....I'm sort of responding to "Incomprehensible!!"I like his track alot....I also, didn't get forwarded on the listing for electronica/classical pieces....I can't really tell what is dead on for a listing like this....I love the fact that the listing is open to all sub-genres....I'd be interested in feedback from anyone...I'm new at this electronica stuff; and curious, because the listing was a non-critique....plus I'm trying to get away with doing the whole thing on my laptop (am I dreaming?)....I've made two pieces....'Buntzz' got forwarded on another listing, but 'Brahms Lullaby' didn't....I wish I knew how to link you to just one song.....but if anyone has time to listen to 'Brahms Lullaby', it would be great, and very appreciated.... thanks to everyone on this forum....it's the best tool, I've found through Taxi thus far....I won't take anything critical personally....so give it to me...Should I give up on making samples like babies crying.... is that just too weird for Taxi?http://www.taxi.com/vickythebassplayerthanks,Vicky

Wow, I love this stuff. Very Bizarre and otherworldly great sounds. Buntzz is a wicked cool track. Brahms Lullaby is uber neat. Very creative sound design. Your Brahms Lullaby would fit in great in a modern Children of the corn movie! haha until the end when it starts to lighten up a bit.As for this being really usable for anything i don't know as I'm not an authority on the subject, but i will tell you I think its great and you should keep up with your electronica experiments as you have great potential (it is super fun isn't it?)using environmental samples is a really great concept people don't embrace enough. I myself have some tracks i am working on for my own concept album that include automatic door sounds and escalators and air piston and stuff like that. Its amazing what you can use for an instrument if you only open your ears to the world!-M.R.H.

Re: electronica with environmental samples
Vicky,I did a track for a classical listing that was also returned for the particular listing. I did an arrangement of Bach's Air on a G String with all Japanese instruments. I thought it was cool the screeners didn't. I sent the track to a library that has licensed some other Asian tracks and he made the comment that the track might work as a comedy piece. Sometimes the people that actually try to place our music have a different view point than we had when we created it. I would try submitting your Brahms to a comedy or children's listing (maybe with a critique) and see what happens.BTW none of this is said to undermine the integrity of your work, and my Bach piece is still trying to find a home.Chuck(the guitarist)

Thanks for the encouragement....I'm really glad I didn't scare you guys with the babies...just one question....When I'm reading other posts, it seems like everyone has pretty fancy recording gear, and home studios....I've always thought with good ears you can get away with less gear....am I dreaming too much thinking I can get a professional enough sound with Adobe Audition and my laptop?thanks for the input.Vicky

Re: electronica with environmental samples
Vicky,I really dug Brahms Lullaby. From an Avant Garde standpoint it's very cool. From an electronica standpoint, it's pretty far out of the mainstream. Buntzz is very cool as well. The jazz stuff sounds good too but I think you've got a good feel for electronica as well.Aphex Twin and the Orb do stuff kind of like what you've done here from time to time. Another composer you might enjoy is Amon Tobin, he did a soundtrack album for a video game that is pretty awesome, I can't remember the title but its available on iTunes. As far as gear goes, I think you're right on track, the ear guides the gear. You've done some pretty hip things with your laptop and software on this cut. What you appear to have is an artistic vision and some good ears for sound and arrangement. Although some of us (myself included) are gear hounds, that's just because we like to have gear, not necessarily because it's necessary to get the job done. If you have the ear and the vision, which you have, you can do a lot with simple gear.Keep up the good work!!Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Re: electronica with environmental samples
Vicky,Wow I was so impressed by your versatility. I really like Jazz side of you, that 11/8 jazz on "Baby Wants To Play" was amazing, plus your bass playing is great. Ok for the electronica, I can't say much about it, but maybe I can give you an artist reference, his name Nitin Sawhney. I think his music really up date and has a wide range of style from pop, electronica to world music.Btw when you posted the title of Environmental Music , I was wondering if it's "Soundscape Music" that you referring too? cause it has a lot to do with sampling the environmental element on that particular music style. So I suggest you to dig that music style if that's the direction that you want to go.All the best for your music,Ponch

Re: electronica with environmental samples
Thanks for mentioning artists to check out....I'll keep working on it all.....as usual....M.R.H...i'd like to hear your samples...Buntzz was mostly bunt-cake pans with drums machinesChuck...I'd love to see a comedy listing....Mazz ...your attitude always rocks....Ponch...I think it is "soundscape"....Baby Wants to Play has many returns (wrong for listing)....my songs get forwarded once in awhile as contemporary jazz....most of the critiques are great, but say "wrong for listing"....just got 4 returns in my email... I can't believe White Wedding and Enter Sandman didn't go thru on cover songs in a different genre....you just don't know....thank you all so much...this is the first forum I've ever gotten into.Vicky
