Enlighten me please!

Post by Mark Crozer » Fri Sep 16, 2011 11:58 am

Hmmm... I submitted 4 songs for the Beatle-esque listing back in August and just got returns on all four. In three cases they said 'Stylistically off target." The three songs in question are 'A Good Heart', 'Brand New World' and 'There Is No Love.' A fourth was returned because of the lyrics which was 'Waiting For June.'

I'm starting to wonder whether I have ears of cloth...

To me these songs, particularly 'A Good Heart,' 'Brand New World' and 'Waiting For June' sound very Beatles-esque.

Hi Mark
I had a return on this one too and folks just reminded me that the music sup did the screening themselves.

So, if our songs didn't float the music sup's boat, oh well... That's show biz. ;)

Best,
:) Casey

I had a listen to the three tracks you mentioned and really liked them, especially a good heart. I thought they had a beatle-esque feel, but perhaps they wanted something a little more obvious. Perhaps they had the early stuff in mind? As it didn't say, and the Beatles had a varied sound throughout their career, it was always going to be a guess. The stylistic criteria seem very tight, and the term beatle-esque is quite vague. It could have gone either way!
Cheers
Gary

Thanks guys.

After some in-depth thought about these songs I have realised that, yes, they might well be heavily Beatles-influenced and have some strong Beatle-ish elements but they don't actually sound like The Beatles. So it's a fair enough return.

I guess I'll just keep doing what I do and hope that someone somewhere decides at some point that what I do is what they want.

re this listing: I got two forwards and two nice notes from I guess it was the supervisor himself? Is it common to get nice notes on y/n listing?

Mark..I enjoyed listening to all of these songs..great work!
My submission "It's not over" was returned for lyrics..I'm not surprised as they were rather odd.

@shoodBworkin ..Congrats!..would love to hear the two submissions that were forwarded..please post a link?

Thank you, Tony. The tracks are called "Father Guitar" and "Phonograph" and they can be found here, if I get the link right this time:

Wow...well, congratz on the forwards Shoodbe, but if these songs are what they were looking for, I'm totally out of touch.

I too wonder what constitutes 'beatle-esque' . . . might it have been the vocals . . . specifically the 'sha-las' in 'Phonograph' and the delivery of the word 'fingahs' in 'Father Guitar'? That's all I can figure.

@shoodBworkin I enjoyed listening to both of these songs...whether Beatlesque or not ,they obviously had the right elements/feel for that music supervisor's needs...congrats again and I hope these go all the way for you!
