EWQL PLAY Orchestra loading Ideas

Hi all! I just received my PLAY and I'm quite overwhelmed with the thought of loading this up. I was hoping for some input, suggestions etc.( I was looking for an appropriate smiley but I couldn't find one that had a terrified look!) I have two options for storing my Library-Platinum Plus- 1) on a 1TB, G-tech, striped FW800 drive and 2) on a 500GHZ internal drive inside my G5 quad (10 GIG RAM). I think my bus speed is 1.25.I really want to use the external drive but EW says it is better to use an internal. Any suggestions? Anyone running this off of an external? Has anyone divided up the library, say brass and percussion one one drive and strings on another?Also how are you approaching the loading process?Any thought would be greatly appreciated! Christi

I have EWQL PLay loaded on an external firewire drive. I was told "read many different places" that its best to separate the samples from the drive that is running your DAW software. That way one hard drive only works on driving your DAW and the other drive just streams samples.So far it is working fairly well. But these samples are HUGE. I can only load about 8 midi tracks, playing simultaneously (depends on the instruments loaded obviously), before I start to get cracks and pops. I'm still trying to figure out how to optimize them as I have a really fast machine and it seems like I should get more tracks at once.A bit of advice, keep only the center mic loaded and turn off the reverb and use the 16 bit samples while writing. When it's time to mix down, load up the reverb and the other mic's (if you want) and kick up the bit rate to 24 bits. Then just bounce as many midi tracks as you can get to play correctly down to audio tracks, turn off those midi tracks and let the audio track versions play as you turn on more midi tracks to bounce to audio tracks. Lather, rinse and repeat until the entire piece is bounced to audio.

Great! Thanks for the input. I haven't loaded mine yet. I have a big project I'm working on and I don't want to start switching my drives around in the middle of it. I'm anxious to work with Play. I hope it is easier to read than the other player!Christi

I don't know about PLAY, but I bought a VisionDAW especially tweaked for EWQL Gold. It has a separate HD just for the samples. I realize these are 16 bit, but they are pretty huge in their own right with the built-in ambience! I'm running them on Kontakt and can load 64 instruments with the VisionDAW. Great machine! This company really knows their stuff, and specializes in maximizing their computers for EWQL libraries.No, I don't work for Vision! Ern
