EWQLSO finally working!

Post by anne » Tue Nov 18, 2008 6:34 am

I decided that I will spend the day getting acquainted with my samples and Kontakt. I finally got my Silver operating (with Kontakt 3) on my mac - only 21 months after I first purchased it Anyone who uses Silver and has some good tips, I'm all ears!Getting this software operating properly was a big accomplishment for me, so that's why I'm bragging.

Thanks Mazz. I know you have patiently listened while I cursed about not being able to use the program. I started digging into Kontakt , as I do not yet have Play for Silver.I think it is going to take me a month to just get a handle on what I can do with Kontakt and, in playing with it came up with a question. If slice an audio file in Kontakt, can I then export it to something to be used in Stylus?Good thing that I only have one appointment (and no husband) in the next 10 days - I can see all of this becoming highly absorbing to study!

Anne,You cannot slice an audio file and import to Stylus.Stylus uses REX type files. Recycle is a program that allows you to create files that can be imported to Stylus. There are third party REX files that can be converted to files that Stylus can read.Chuck

I am just starting to us it extensively myself and am still trying to figure out how to configure my system. I have PLAY but my system is a bit to under powered for it - so I need to figure out how to use the Kontakt version. (I still have those samples on my system).I just barely found out about portamento and legato settings this week and don't know how to make them work yet. (The current project I'm working on doesn't have to be broadcast quality - so I may have to wait a couple of weeks to play with those settings.)Good luck playing with it. Maybe as I learn more I will share with you.Trent

Thanks Trent - I just found those settings on the day before leaving for the rally Chuck - "Stylus uses REX type files. Recycle is a program that allows you to create files that can be imported to Stylus." - that is the information I was looking for. I can finally understand (FINALLY ! is more like it) why this is such a great thing to be able to do. I came up with a plan to practice realism with Kontakt / EW etc. I exported midi files from band in a box, and imported them into Logic. . I'm filling the instruments using Logic exs / ultrabeat instruments and Kontakt. This lets me have an idea of what a song should sound like (jazz, country etc) and I can focus on learning how the virtual instruments work without having to write music first. I'll even post the files as I go along if anyone wants to see the progress or offer tips as I go on. I'm only using stock controls and effects built into those programs at this point. My goal is to see how incredible the instruments are (right now this plan is showing me just how little I know about using VIs and midi !)

I found comfort in this post Anne! I still haven't loaded my upgrade for EW. But it's only been about 5 months! I'm waiting for lightning to strike!
