EWSO Gold & Cubase help needed!
O Gurus, I bow down before you and beg for help! In setting up my EWSO, my new account got disabled so I can't get on the NI forum to ask for help. I also haven't received the "key" to validate my software.... gulp. So I am waiting for help from them on this. 3 days have passed... In the meantime, I can use the EW software stand-alone. I have also just installed Cubase, which is just as new to me. Happy to say the installation and registration of this went ok.Can any of you tell me how I plug the EWSO sounds into Cubase? I just can't work out how. The manual doesn't seem to mention this other than a very small paragraph and what it says will happen, doesn't.(An Instrument Rack opens and when you click on "No Instrument" you are supposed to get a selection of instruments and I get nothing).I'm on a PC with Vista by the way. For my own 2 cents, I'd say this: "Don't invest in a new laptop with a new Operating System, a new symphony orchestra and a never-before-used DAW in the same month!!!!! But if you do, hold onto all your old equipment so you can keep composing in the meantime... Many thanks for any help,Georgina

georginasaint,Yeah, I've had that problem with Cubase LE not being able to see virtual instruments. What I do to combat the problem is to copy the plug-in (mine is EWQLSOGold XPDXi.dll, yours may be slightly different, but the .dll extension is the key) and paste in Cubase's VST plug-in folder. That seemed to get Cubase to recognize that there's a plug-in to choose from. Try that and see if it works. HTH.I-468

georginasaint,Also, I don't know what ya' did, but I didn't go through that kind of trouble to get mine activated. I did everything right there at the NI Service site, and the activation key, pretty much activated itself for me. As I long I put in the right Serial #, it generated an activation key, and activated Gold for me, and all my other products as well. Maybe you can get on there and create a brand new account using another e-mail address possibly? Did you actually speak to someone there? 3 days? Yiiiiiiikes! That's too long! I'd call up again and force the issue.I-468

I-468, thanks, I'll try the pasting-in technique tomorrow. I would have thought there was a more normal route though? Of course, I haven't had time to read every page of the 200 odd page manual yet. The activation key happened because after I put all my details in it sent me back to the start page and I thought I had done something wrong. I put my email address in again and then it said "you're trying to get into someone else's account. This account is now deactivated" So then I found a "welcome to your new account" email, but the key hasn't come because the account is frozen or something. (Might be nice to have a "Successfully created new account" message eh?) I have sent them several emails but nothing yet! I agree it's too long. As I'm in England, they are in Amsterdam so I will try calling them tomorrow if I haven't had an email by morning.

Of course, I haven't had time to read every page of the 200 odd page manual yet. When you installed the Gold it should've asked you what components you wanted to install (Standalone, library, dx plugin, vst plugin etc). If you had "Vst plugin" checked it should have asked you what folder to put it in. That's where you would have pointed it to the VST plugins folder in your Steinberg or Cubase folder. If you can't remember what happened during installation, go look inside yoiur Steinberg folder or Cubase folder (which should be inside the Steinberg folder) to see if there's a VST Plugins folder in either or both of them. Look inside that/those folder(s) to see if you can see the Gold dll there.Sometimes NI installation creates an additional folder called Vst plugins inside the plugin folder and puts the dll inside that, so make sure you check for that.Report back after you do this

Re: EWSO Gold & Cubase help needed!
Guys, thanks for your help! I found the .dll in EW and copied it into Cubase and now when I click on the instrument rack EW comes up as an option. I haven't worked out how to select an instrument from it and make it stick, but I know I need to go through the tutorials and learn far more before I understand how to use it. Also, I need to shift my keyboard and plug it into my computer (so I can actually play some notes in Cubase!) which means furniture upheavel and I'm not looking forward to that. Anyone who wants to use the bathroom will then have to climb over my synth and negotiate a bunch of wires.... oh dear. Anyway, thanks again guys, no doubt I will be coming back to ya...
