examples for classical pieces..?
hi folks, that's the listing:***A wide variety of great-sounding versions of famous PUBLIC DOMAIN CLASSICAL PIECES are sought by an established Music Library/Publisher that has worked with TAXI for years. They exclusively supply songs/tracks to numerous Cable TV shows -- mostly cooking and travel shows -- and need new versions of well-known Classical instrumentals to meet their clients' needs. Great performances are essential. This company typically offers exclusive deals. Your songs must be Broadcast Quality (excellent sounding home recordings are OK). All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY -- NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. For ground submissions, please enclose a S.A.S.E. if you would like a response. Submissions must be received no later than Aug. 23, 2007.TAXI # Y070823CL****my question:what *exactly* is meant with "classical pieces"..? bach and mozart..? or other "classics" (meaning standards)?can anybody give an example of such a piece (title)?thanks, martin

I agree, but, be careful with the wording of this part...Quote: I interpreted this listing as referring to the classical eraClassical music includes the classical era (1750 to the 1810s) and much more (such as baroque, romantic, impressionistic eras...) Anything from Bach, Haydn, Handel, Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, Berlioz, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Liszt, Mahler, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Debussy, Ravel, Scriabin, Hindemith, Poulenc etc.FWIWzink

Re: examples for classical pieces..?
I wonder if they're looking for new arrangments, like Chuck did with the Bach piece? Or are they looking for new recordings of the original score?Since they are saying "new versions" that makes me think a new arrangment might be OK. Any ideas?Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Think for example a classical guitar version of "Air on the G String", that type of thing would get more use than say an accordion version of "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" I'm sure new realizations of original scores would be okay as well as long as they sound very "real".

I was actually considering a Marimba/Accordian version of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, seriously! I'll take your advice and tone down my concept a bit for this listing. Glad to see you back on the boards, I hope your vacation was great!John

Quote:Some of the most overused examples would be Vivaldi's four seasons, Beethoven's moonlight sonata, 5th symphony, ... Those are definitely overused. But please do not leave out Pachabel's canon.

Re: examples for classical pieces..?
I think this listing could use a little elaboration to be able to more accurately submit what they are going for. Bach and Vivaldi aren't classical composers, they are from the Baroque Era.Also, could you do an entirely "electronic" version. How about a jazz interpretation. (I'm thinking about Bill Evans disc of classical arrangements or the dics Fred Hersh did of Russian composers and another doing the Romantics) Or some of the stuff Windham Hill has done.OR should one play it safe and be non- controversial?Any thoughts?Chuck

Re: examples for classical pieces..?
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that they are not as specific with their Eras as we musicians are. I think when they say Classical music, they would be including Bach and Vivaldi and probably even Ravel and Debussy.BTW, one of my all time favorite "Classical" electronic albums is "Snowflakes Are Dancing" by Tomita. It's the piano music of Debussy done on synthesizers in around 1975 or so. I think I prefer it to Switched on Bach.Mazz
