Falling From The Tree

Post by stephen1977 » Thu Dec 04, 2008 2:17 am

Listing help here guys, if you would.I'm pretty much leaning towards Funk, but the listings for that are so rare, at least from what I've seen so far (only been a paying member since September).Do you see any alternatives to this other than Funk, maybe something else it could fall into for the listings? Any help would be much appreciated.http://www.audio-village.com/_Falling-F ... 29713.html

It doesn't sound exactly like Funk to me right now, at least not classic Funk. I could hear Chrissie Hynde doing it. Could be R&B, but you'd have to use different instrumentation (e.g., programmed drums). Beyonce? On my laptop speakers, the drums were a little hot in the mix.VinceFunny you mention Programmed Drums, because those actually are Programmed Drums. Chrissie Hynde huh? Doesn't ring a bell. I will have to check her out to compare.. Yeah, I can hear the R & B thing... ...its possible.

First off I agree with BillG on the bass. Killer pocket and tone for sure! And great drum programming. To me the most right on a la I heard so far was Madonna. I think there is more of an jazzy vibe here as opposed to the heavily syncopated rhtyhms and hip-hop style kits of today's R&B. Billboard has an "Adult R&B" chart which perhaps would be the vein. Sorry but I'm drawing a blank on an exact artist match up though. I see what Mazz is saying about the vocal and busy drums competing which is a very astute observation. Perhaps some careful EQ'ing of top end or some more compression would dull them a bit take them out of the spotlight.

StephenCool track, man. Thanks for posting. Enjoyed it a lot.The drum programming is excellent but busy IM2cO. It leaves little space, especially for the vocal. I also thought the lead vocal could be a bit hotter. But then I’m a singer The guitar runs, wahs and noodles are great textures. Really liked them.I didn’t really get a Madonna type vibe from this at all (sorry, Patrick ). I definitely got Ray of Light/Substitute for Love from Through the Void (I’m presuming it’s the same singer) but not from this. Am I crazy in thinking that this may be in or around acid jazz? It reminds me of some artist but for the life of me I just can’t figure out who. Sounds like something Gilles Peterson would spin if he wasn’t playing in a club.Have you thought of some horns?I bet I've helped a lot

Mazz hit the nail right on the head here. Who is the star of the song, the vocal or the drums? Clashes too much right now...There is a great song in there but it is being destroyed by the drums. Lower the drums A LOT in the mix and bring out the song and that very nice Chrissie-like vocal line.Check out The Pretender's new CD... Plenty of room for a little retro with a voice like Chrissie's.Forget funk and all that... Think film/TV- the right "a la" opportunity. Also, you may want to check out this CD by a fav of mine, a local Philly band:http://www.amazon.com/Little-Voodoo-Gre ... 000068793I instantly heard similarities... big compliment.
