Patrick,First of all,I love the sound/feel of this. It really makes think back to the heyday of U2 in the 90's. This sounds reminiscent of "Joshua Tree".In the verses, I think you could rephrase so your not rushing"while I figure out"and"for my simple heart" (I think you could lose simple and still get the point across)and"I was behind"If you shorten the lines it will be easier to sing and you wont lose any meaning IMO.I really think you could shorten the chorus. "It wont be long" does sound like a prechorus.I think you could take out"you say im special""but I know better"and go straight to "and it wont be long til you see through me"This will keep the nice flow between verse/chorus. Bill's idea of a more simple intro is a good one.. It would really make the opening vocal stand out and have more effect. The bridge is outstanding. "cracks in my fault lines" is just brilliant. In fact the whole bridge is just superb man.Overall this song is a really nice rock/pop sound and feel.I love the feeling you put into it. Ive got it on repeat right now and it just really takes me back to my youth. Has a bit of a timeless quality to it. The mix is incredibly loud! How did you get that volume level and keep it so clean sounding? Ive got my preamp on 12% and its louder than the cd's I listen to. Id love to know some tricksNice one brother!M~

Hey Matt, appreciate the detailed song feedback! And I love U2 (especially Joshua Tree, so that's awesome). It's funny because I did think "I was behind" was rushed but I didn't think about those other lines. I can see what you're saying and I'll look into that. That's an interesting thought to shorten the chorus. I'd never even considered that. When you say "And it won't be long" sounds like a p/c do you mean the actual lyric or the way the whole part sounds? Thanks on that bridge line! Yeah, it just popped into my head as I was mumbling filler lyrics and I really like it too. Gotta love those freebies huh?! That's really cool what you said about the timeless quality. I like the idea of a good song being a good song, even though there is a time and place for sounding "current" or "modern". Ha ha wow I didn't realize I'd succeeded in getting my mix so hot!! (Although who doesn't try right?!) I normally squeeze the pi$$ out of it but lately I've been trying to compress less. I'd be glad to share my signal chain and settings on that...On the master buss:Waves C1 compressor, 1.5:1 ratio, .01 Attack, 1 Release, about 3 dB reductionUAD 1176, 4:1 ratio, 1 Attack, 7 Release, about 3 - 5 dB reductionWaves L2 giving about 3 dB of limiting
