I would start the 8th note feel piano right at the beginning, over the sustained chords. make it a motif that builds
Interesting suggestion Andy. Not sure that is a Cold Play type move, but would probably be cool sounding and move things along better. Not sure I understand the Pad suggestion in the chorus...I think you mean the performance seems choppy? It's got to be backed off anyway.
Thanks for the reverb suggestions and the settings on the Plate reverb. I didn't mean to type insert the reverb in the master bus...I meant to type what you said...all tracks sent to the same reverb.
gonna work on this tonight and make the changes.

re: pad, no I meant that you hear where the notes stop (like fingers lifted off the keyboard) and then attack again on the downbeat. since that's probably a MIDI Viritual instrument, I would just extend those notes so they hit the downbeat of the next one. maybe it sound smooth.
when it doubt - check it out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d020hcWA_Wg
this is what I am talking about the piano hitting straight off with the 8th note feel. this idea. and see how it builds into the bigger part, then drops off into the vocal, notice the synth pad in the back, very smooth. you hear the notes change, but you don't hear the attacks of each note really, very smooth and dreamlike.
listen at 2:20 when stuff starts to build up to 2:40 in the bridge. that's the way to build something like this. then breakdown at 3:04. and again up at 3;20. its formulaic. but it works. sounds big.
I think in a nutshell that is part of what this style is about - smooth dreaming stuff in the back, with rocking drums and guitars and pianos in the foreground punctuating things and keeping it rocking.

Got it Andy. I can also use Melodyne to pull those notes to the next beat so you don't have that finger coming off the keys sound.
Great stuff...thanks again.
