Feedback for an Emotional Trailer

Post by AlonMarcus » Mon Feb 24, 2025 12:33 am

Hello there!

I'll be more than happy to hear your opinions on this one

https://soundcloud.com/alon-marcus-9837 ... us-heavens

or on TAXI https://www.taxi.com/my/artist/songs/8G ... us-heavens

---------------------------------------------------------------------

EMOTIONAL TRAILER-Style INSTRUMENTALS are needed for an (up to) $4,000 placement in an Indie Movie Trailer! This new NON-EXCLUSIVE Music Licensing Company is rapidly gaining recognition and securing major opportunities with high-profile clients!

This Company is searching for Instrumentals in the general stylistic ballpark of the following references:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rucccluzpxs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfR-5ul64fQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JOj-Rl4IB4

Quoting the Company's CEO: "The film is an epic drama set in the 1930s, and the music should convey emotional intensity and sweeping grandeur. It should build gradually with a sense of tension and darkness, and evoke big emotions while hinting at mystery or a hidden secret that's central to the storyline."

Please submit well-composed Trailer Instrumentals with an epic, larger-than-life sound and a growing sense of tension! This Company is looking for emotionally captivating tracks that help the listener get swept up in the narrative while feeling the weight of a growing darkness. Epic motifs, heart-pounding rhythms, excellent compositions, solid production, and dynamic arrangements that build in intensity as it progresses are all needed. Orchestral Instrumentation in the general ballpark of the references will work best. Please ensure any virtual instruments or samples you use are high-quality, very realistic, and not dated sounding.

Your submissions should be between 2 and 2.5 minutes long, give or take. Tracks need to have non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings. Do NOT copy the referenced examples in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe.

I see your Taxi links still don't work, so thanks for giving us the Soundcloud option (I see no neg in that).

Not my genre so please take my comments as from a casual listener. I listened to the first ref track and its the typical trailer small first act starting from very little but slowly ramping up, bigger second act getting more intense, really big final act with a massive conclusion (plus a tiny few final notes to wrap it up. There's no guitar, which would help it sit in the 1930's as requested by the listing.

By comparison, I would say your track starts with too much intensity, the middle section doesn't build a great deal and starts to lose focus, and although the final section builds it still seems to be missing the massive conclusion. Also, adding electric guitar takes it out of the 1930's for me. My thought would be to try some restructuring (minus guitar) to build more of that arc of musical and emotional intensity, and also include a lot more impacts and booms that add to the emotion. You have some very nice orchestration going on and it would be a great shame not to make something from that. I hope you can steer it around.
Like it is, and 100% HI

Hi Alon,

I'm considering submitting to this specific listing as well; but, there's some misunderstanding, particularly with the mention of the 1930s in the brief, as the references are more of a "generic" trailer development. Please take my comments with a grain of salt, as I am unsure of the overall direction of that specific brief.

When I look your SoundCloud file, the first thing I notice is that you have a three-act structure; nevertheless, the intensity of each act is nearly equal. Telefunkin said it in his comment: "start from very little but slowly ramp it up". Increase the intensity every 4-8 bars or so.

In my opinion, your use of the guitar could have been better utilized, beginning with a few notes here and there, and then by the end of the cue, leading an oversweeping melody (that would have developed) throughout.

This is where I'm not sure about the artistic direction of the listing. I mean, a guitar could work well for such trailers, but maybe not in a 1930s orchestration style?

Lastly, your hit sounds lean more towards the hip-hop genre; Trailer hits have a specific "flavor" to them. The references should help yo with cross checking your impacts.

That's my .2… hope that helps

Thank you, Edmond!
I’m really glad to read your response. A couple of years ago, I was learning from your video tutorials on epic orchestral music, trailers, and more.
I truly appreciate you sharing your talent—thank you!
