these are my first attempts at home recording some songs i've written. I suppose they are my first attempts at songwriting ,period. I usually start a song and can't finish it. I just listened to "Eventually". I like the composition and your vocals, which have a "loose and free" kind of style, give the track a lot personality. Everything (composition, instruments, vocals) is "quality matched" (good) with the exception of the drums (not so good). They stick out as being completely separate from the rest of the track and not because they're so hot that they leave everything else in the dust. Like any first attempt at anything, it's pretty hard to get it all perfect the first time but I think you've got a really good start. Drums are an art in and of themselves and probably difficult to get quality recordings. Some of us, probably a fair number of us, use high quality loop packages that give us a real recordings of real drummers so they sound great if you use them right.Anyway, deciding what to do about drums and percussion is maybe one item to put on your "to do" list and was probably an item on most of our "to do" lists at one time or another.HTH,Dave

thanks for listening ,Dave. it was my first attempt at soft synth drums. i just bought some loops cd's but know next to nothing about how to work with loops in Cubase. for the songs i've posted so far i basically played the drum parts with 2 or 3 fingers on my keyboard, triggering Edirol Super quartet drum kits. so i've yet to figure out a drum solution but will keep trying

There's a thread around here recently about EZ Drummer vs Stryker (which I've never heard of). I don't use EZ Drummer but I know people that do and they like it a lot. It has a lot of expansion packs for all kinds of drum kits and styles. Virtual instruments and loop packages can really be your friend, especially for the do-it-all-yourself home studio guy (like most of us here).
