Feedback Request: Indie Folk Instrumental
Hey Folks,
I'd really appreciate any input on this track for the listing below: https://www.taxi.com/members/Gjdf7sdFR ... all-of-us-
Many thanks,
Doug
A Bunch of INDIE FOLK INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a top-tier Australian Music Supervision Company that has a long list of placements in TV Commercials and Advertising!
They're looking for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals that could be heard on a playlist with the following examples:
"Don't Give Up" by Foreign Fields https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPiyyQDY-Io
"Poolside" by Tommy Ashby feat. Lydia Clowes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usvQ4EE7jaw
"Song for Spring" by Canyon City https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4CjX_DtRzc
Although the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals only for this request.
Send them in well-produced Indie Folk Instrumentals that could work well for TV commercials and advertising. Engaging motifs, inviting rhythms, excellent musicianship, and lush, acoustic-based instrumentation in the ballpark of the references are all needed for this request. Your production should be polished and any virtual instruments or samples you use need to be high-quality and fresh.

Nicely put together, Doug. I really liked the idea that you used so few different pitches in the melody. I wish I could comment more on just how well it "fits" into the Indie Folk genre, but my concentration is in a different area. To me, yours is VERY well done (love the guitar) and much more interesting musically than the references. The only thing I would consider modifying is the rather abrupt feel to the ending. I wish you all the best!

Nice Piece, listened to the first 10 seconds...
Listened to the first 5 secs of the three refs...
From my ears... The refs are much more sparse
I can hear the full body of the acoustic in the refs
The drums in your piece grab all the attention from the start
Your acoustic kinda sounds DI and not mic'ed???
Can't tell because it is covered by the rest of the instrumentation.
Toss up as to what the screener will say!
Cheers,
Cass

Hey John, thanks for listening and commenting! I really appreciate the feedback and thoughts. I haven't submitted this yet, so will see what I can do about the ending. Thanks again! Thanks a lot for your feedback on this, Cass -- much appreciated! I'll try stripping out some of the drums, etc. especially at the beginning to try and better match the reference. All the guitars are mic'd, but I may have removed too much lower/mid frequencies, so will revisit that too. Thanks again...Dougcassmcentee wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 5:20 amNice Piece, listened to the first 10 seconds...

Re: Feedback Request: Indie Folk Instrumental
Hey Doug, I enjoyed this tune, it's certainly an Indie Folk instrumental. Very nice composition and I think it's usable and licensable.
I think that for me there was too much reverb. I also feel that the reference tracks are drier, and give an impression of a small room or a small studio. Yours sounds big.
Good Luck man!

Hey Alon, thanks for listening and for the helpful feedback about the reverb. I'm going to work to incorporate that and some of the other feedback I've received before submitting. Again, thanks for your encouragement and help on this.AlonMarcus wrote: ↑Mon Oct 31, 2022 2:40 amHey Doug, I enjoyed this tune, it's certainly an Indie Folk instrumental. Re: Feedback Request: Indie Folk Instrumental
It's a really nice track but I'm not hearing enough similarity to reference tracks. If I didn't know it was for an indie folk listing, I probably wouldn't have heard it as indie folk, just really pretty background music. Definitely a good one for other opps. And nothing to lose except a fiver, throwing it in.

Hi Casey, and thanks so much for listening and commenting! You're probably right, I'll hold onto this one for a more suitable listing in future. Thanks again, and all the best, DougCasey H wrote: ↑Mon Oct 31, 2022 7:18 amIt's a really nice track but I'm not hearing enough similarity to reference tracks. Doug: When I listen to Foreign Fields - Don't Give Up, for instance, starting at 1:25, the biggest difference I hear compared with yours is the percussion: yours is heavier and boomier. If it was me, I might try substituting handclaps or some such for your current percussion and submitting. Worst case, you get more feedback and confirm or disconfirm what others have said.DouglasKnight wrote: ↑Mon Oct 31, 2022 4:07 pmI'll hold onto this one for a more suitable listing in future.
