Re: First Library Placement
Hey, congratulations. I'm probably telling you something that you already know or are doing or plan to do so if I'm preaching to the choir, ignore me, but...After you've done all the "official" stuff on this placement (sign and send contract, copy of song on CD, whatever), don't be shy to ask if they'd like to evaluate more of your music or if there's anything in particular that they're looking for, something that you can submit directly for. Now that you're "in", submitting more material will be easier since you don't have to prove yourself in terms of meeting their standards of quality. You've already done that. They'll always need new music so even if they don't need anything else at this time, they will later. Contact them from time to time and start the process of building a nice, friendly, long term relationship. Good luck!Dave

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Re: First Library Placement
Mazz,This was the listing:A wide range of current-sounding CORPORATE/BUSINESS INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a new Online Music Licensing Co. run by a Music Library veteran. This style is also known as “Light Activity” instrumentals: positive-sounding tracks that evoke intensity, productivity, victory, and pride. Prominent melodies not required and all tempos are OK. All types of instrumentation is OK as well. The company is designed to help producers, music supervisors, etc. find material for their film/TV/commercial/video game projects. Your tracks need to be 2-5 minutes long and be of the highest quality - they’re looking for exceptional instrumentals and performances. They offer a non-exclusive deal where all profits are split 50/50 between the company and the writer [you keep your copyrights]. Broadcast quality needed [excellent home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. For ground submissions, please enclose a S.A.S.E. if you would like a response. As always, we will notify everyone via e-mail, whether your submissions have been Forwarded or Returned. Submissions must be received no later than 4:00 pm, Pacific Standard Time (California time), Friday, Feb. 2, 2007. TAXI # D070202IN This is the piece:http://www.broadjam.com/artists/songind ... =18864Most of this was done on the Korg OASYS. I don't know if you have messed around with Korg's Karma. (The OASYS has the second generation of Karma) It takes little time to assemble something as simple as this. Not the greatest music I've ever produced, but seemed to fit the listing well.Chuck

Quote:Not the greatest music I've ever produced, but seemed to fit the listing well.I think that producing a song that's useful (and knowing it's useful in advance) is as difficult or maybe more difficult than producing a technically brilliant track. As I was riding to the hotel from the airport at the last Taxi rally with a van full of other Taxi musicians, it kind of struck me that my 2004 demo CD was probably much more enjoyable to listen to but much less useful (since I couldn't get a deal to save my life) and that my 2006 demo CD was much more functional and useful since almost all of the songs on there had been used in some kind of film or television project. Generally speaking, I'd say that the 2006 demo CD was less "interesting" to listen to in terms of overall entertainment.I still can't identify very well what's going to be useful when I write it. When I can do that better, I'll get better at targeting these opportunities.Congratulations (again). Dave
