First Peer to Peer

Post by guitmusic1 » Mon Jan 04, 2016 5:38 pm

Been working on this for a few weeks now on and off. Started out as an instrumental cue, but added lyrics for fun... that is until I realized the key was a huge challenge for my voice. General thoughts on the mix?

Sort of sounds like something you might hear in a Quentin Tarantino film, which is not a bad thing for the right listing. Something sounds off with the vocal recording, like something is clicking or whatever. Just listen to that track separate to see if I'm imagining it. Definitely a throwback style thing especially with the organ sound. Assuming that's what you're going for, good job.

Thanks Bob! Just listened to your stuff on Soundcloud. Sounds really good!

I'm brand new to self producing, so still have quite a bit to learn!

I actually think the vocal sounds awesome... if the key wasn't quite right then it probably made you really focus on the performance, and stretching to hit the notes gives it power and emotion that sound very real.

As far as the mix goes I can really make out what is going on in the background:

1. I hear a lot of guitar and organ mashed together. It might help to tweak EQ and panning to help each one stand on its own
2. The drums are buried except for the occasional kick and snare that poke through. To me there is too much reverb on the drums, but that might be intentional
3. I'm not really sure if there is a bass or anything else buried in there somewhere

I wish I had more specific ideas, but I'm not listening on very good speakers and don't have headphones to better hear any panning that may already be there.

Hope this helps!

-Bill
