First Return

Post by quadri » Wed Nov 25, 2009 1:49 pm

So here I am with my first return I was not surprised for that because I sent it just to have a try.Was a Yes/No listing so I don't have a critique. The screener just wrote "a bit too rock for this listing in my opinion"What I don't understand is,does the song was near to be forwarded but was just a bit too rock or was completely out of listing? The song is "Dance like the fire" link: http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... tream=true and the listing was:"ELECTRONICA SONGS and INSTRUMENTALS a la Portishead, Santogold, The Orb, Zero 7, etc., needed by the Music Supervisor of an established Production Company that is a major player specializing in the Extreme Sports Film industry. Songs and/or instrumentals should be very modern sounding. Tunes should not only be ultra hip/cutting edge, but have commercial pop appeal as well. Tracks need to be 60 seconds in length or higher. Broadcast quality is needed (excellent home recordings are fine). Please submit one to three songs or instrumentals online or per CD, include lyrics (if applicable). All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than 4:00pm (PST) on Friday, November 20, 2009. TAXI #D091120EL"

im quite familiar with Portishead's music, i dont know othere referenced artists much but had listen to their myspace for like 5-10 mins. yeh the screener is quite right, your song is not much like those a la artists. its pretty rocky and off target for this kind of listing i guess?the listing also says "Songs and/or instrumentals should be very modern sounding. Tunes should not only be ultra hip/cutting edge, but have COMMERCIAL POP APPEAL as well". im sure you are a talented rock composer, maybe its good to target which listings you want to go for? im a rock person too. it was only few weeks ago that i realized i should do rock stuff than other styles. i shouldnt really go for hiphop R&B, for example. i could do it if i try but i wont bother for now, cos its really not my cuppa tea !! finding what you are really good at helps. i sometimes do other fun/electro pop stuff but as side projects (one of them was forwarded !), but i want to focus on what i really like at the moment. dont worry too much!! you will be alright!!!
