first time for everything... piano submission

i've been putting this off forever but... here's what i'm gonna submit for the melancholy piano thing, unless somebody says don't and has a good critique of why.

plus since i'm really a newbie at posting on the forum, and i'm not really sure what i'm doing so here goes...

Hi Jonathan! There is a first time for everything and you came to the right place to get feedback. I listened to your piece and it sounded good. There was a couple things I wanted to point out that I noticed. At the :36 second mark I like the edit point before the Piano goes into the melody/solo, but there's a note or two in the bottom end that seems to be landing a little early. If you line up the midi on the beat I think it would better define that edit point and clean up the transition. I'm not saying quantize the whole thing because I think the human feel is important in an emotional/melancholy piece like this. I'd also bring down the arpeggiated part a skooch to give the solo piano part some space to breath. The last thing I was thinking about was at the 2:34 mark before the arpeggiated part changes I feel like that phrase was cut short to move into the end part. Remember this is just what my 2 cents, I hope this is helpful in some way. Don't let anyone's opinion determine if you're going to submit to a listing or not. If you want to go for it, go for it! You never know! The most important thing is to keep working at it and use the feedback from the screeners and forum folks as best as you can. Best of luck to you!!

Hey Jonathan-
Welcome to the forum. Congrats for submitting and for posting your track.

Some feedback:
1) I don't recommend fading your track in. You ultimately want a clean beginning and ending, so that an editor can choose how to cut or fade your music.
2) Try to write in edit point, where the music breathes. This helps the editor either find a place the stop, or they might start from the beginning of your track and use like the last 0:30. This can be a bit difficult, and is sort of specific to creating music for TV…

Good to see you posting something!

Two things. Can you post the actual listing?

I do find the left hand a little aggressive until 0:39, when the right hand comes in and softens it up a bit. So without reading the listing and/or hearing samples I can't tell if you're on target or not.

So is it a live piano or virtual you're using.
