First TV placement

Post by shanegrla » Wed Jun 29, 2011 5:06 pm

I just found out from my library that I got my first TV placement on CMT's Next Superstar! Unfortunately I don't know which track or which episode yet. Heck, I don't even know the show! I assume it's an American Idol style show on CMT (Country Music Channel). I'll be keeping an eye out for it now.

A couple funny things about this placement:
1. None of my cues is country.
2. It was a Custom Cue originally written for another show, but somehow must've gotten pitched to this show as well. Hey, I'll take it!

I presume my next BMI statement will have a few more details, so I can at least let everyone know what cue was used then! (Unfortunately, looks like that won't be for another 3 months at least, as I just now got a statement and nothing of this sort was on it.)

Shane,

If the placement just happened/aired you won't see anything on the next BMI statement, you will see it on your January statement. The fall statement covers Q1/2011, this will most likely be Q2 as we're just at the end of that now. Also make sure you sign up for direct deposit with BMI, so you will always get your royalties even if it's only a small amount. For paper checks, small amounts are held until they reach a certain threshold (although it is my understanding they will always send your very first statement).

All that being said, congrats on your first placement, here's to many more!

Thanks for the info, Matto. Yes, I'm already enrolled in direct deposit. This is my first tv/film placement, but I'm actually not a royalty virgin. I've gotten money from some stuff I've done in the past, so I made sure to get in on that a few months ago.
