Forwards...My 1st post here !

Post by mikegoudreau » Tue Dec 04, 2007 4:59 am

Hello fellow passengers,I've been a member at Taxi for about a year and 1/2...I just noticed this part of the website yesterday...Loved reading your thoughts, negative and positive..Since being a member I've submitted aprox 60 tunes and have been forwarded aprox 40+ times...I don't know if that's good or great but whatever...I've signed publishing deals with 3 different music libraries for 12 of my tunes in the past 6 months and even got a placement for one of my French Cabaret compositions that will be featured in the " Everybody Hates Chris " show in a french restaurant scene on " CW " channel, ( CBS/Paramount )...And just got an email yesterday after a forward to a label from Arizona for 3 of my original swing blues tunes to be included in a box set distributed by Sony/BMG in Poland ( apparently their last compilation went triple platinum...And they want me to send more tunes !!I've been a full time musician, bandleader, songwriter, self-producer for about 15 years now and although I've had great reviews, I've never been able to make that next GIANT step...Until now. I'm very happy I joined Taxi and I don't think that without these recent successes that I would have been able to follow through because I was running on empty for the past couple of years...I know Taxi isn't perfect...I have found the critiques in most cases unhelpful...At least for me...But I've been and trying to be very selective in what I send in...I don't think I'll ever get a forward for my country compositions so I've pretty much given up on that and I'm putting my energy where I've had success so far...Blues, Jazz, World etc.Reading back I guess this was a bit long winded ...Sorry !Cheers, Mike

Mike, Congratulations, 2/3 forward rate is spectacular. But what's even better is deals and placements.Yes, the country listings are very difficult, as they are looking for that 1 in a million song.Great work and welcome to the forums.Rob

Mike,Welcome aboard and congratulations on your forwards and deals.Could you post a link to some of your work. There are a fair number of folks targeting TV and film and we tend to be very supportive of each other regarding listings, gear, mixes, and on occasion kicking each other in the pants.Chuck

Yeah, buddy. Mike, those percentages are outrageous. Congrats on all the great work and the successes. BTW, have you told TAXI about any of these deals? I promise you they WANT to know these things. Please, don't hesitate to send them some of the details. They work hard to keep track of which companies are consistently helping out TAXI members, so you wouldn't be bragging (although you certainly have the RIGHT to do some crowing), you'd actually be helping out other TAXI members. that's a win/win, don't you think?Again, thanks for sharing your amazing news and WELCOME to the boards.Ted

Hey Ted thanks for your comments ! YES I always tell the folks at Taxi the good news before posting here ( I only realized this page ( forum ) existed 2 days ago )...I would have never made those contacts if I hadn't been forwarded in the first place !!I wasn't posting this to brag and if it seems that way to my friends here I apolagize...I'm actually my worst critic and I've always thought of myself as mediocre at best...No kidding !But you're right , I work my a** off and always have because I love playing music and being a musician...I also try to be as selective as I can before submitting tunes...I'm still learning actually...That's why I'm not sending tunes for country listings much...It's too bad that Taxi has to bow to today's country music industry standards...But they have to give them what they want to keep them happy and I understand this.Don't get me wrong there's some great artists out there, but really, do you think that we'll be playing and singing those Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Faith Hill etc. tunes in 20 years???...I don't think so !!...But GREAT tunes like Crazy and Your Cheatin' Heart, Together Again etc. will still be tops in 100 years from now !... This is my humble opinion and I'm sure alot of people won't care for my comments but that's what I really think ! I'm not from Nashville, but I LOVE country music but the soul is often missing and it's becoming more and more like generic pop music..Money runs everything unfortunatly today. In the meantime I'll keep focussing my efforts where I think I have the best chance for success..Cheers friends, Mike

Yeah. No wonder you get forwarded all the time. The ONLY reason you wouldn't get through is if you're submitting to a listing your stuff doesn't quite fit. Great playing, singing, recording, etc. Folks, check Mike's stuff out. He's the real deal.

Mike, I was NOT suggesting you were bragging. Not at all. But I WAS telling you that, with your successes and your terrific music, you have justifiable reason to brag. (You'll learn soon enough that I have a tendency to be a little long-winded. )No matter. Welcome, again, and I look forward to your contributions to these forums.Ted
