Forwards my first 3 times?

Post by jameschristian » Sun Jun 17, 2007 10:54 am

I'm new to TAXI and was wondering how common it is to get something forwarded. I've submitted music 3 times and have had forwards every time. If it's that easy to get forwarded (Film/TV Libraries) are the opportunities for placement and for making any significant money really there? I have yet to hear from the companies........I don't know what to expect. Has anyone out there been able to make decent money doing the Film/TV stuff?

I was forwarded pretty regularly at first in 2004 but then it started to be a few here and a few there with no calls, no deals. It's only been this year (3 years later) and many submissions that I've landed a couple of deals. No income yet, the deals are so far all back-end (performance royalties if it gets used, maybe some upfront usage pay). My understanding is that it takes a few years to realize a profit from the music industry. It takes writing and submitting a ton of things via TAXI and other sources to develop a base line catalog of marketable pieces and to get those pieces in to viable situations. There's much better businesses to be in if a quick buck is what you're after.Search the forum for posts by matto, one of the most successful composers so far using TAXI as one of his inroads to the industry (although I doubt his only one). He has a lot of knowledge of the industry and what it's taken him to get where he is.The best of luck to you, and some of us are itching to hear your successfully forwarded music. Please post some here along with a description of the listings you were forwarded to.Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

I'd be happy to send the tunes soon as I figure out how to post them.

I don't think it's possible to post songs directly to the TAXI forum, you have to post links from another site.Lots of people use Soundclick. I think it's free and allows you to post songs and send links to them. It has a built in player that opens automatically. The sound quality seems pretty good, probably better than MySpace which is pretty popular as well. Other people have their own website or use a Broadjam site (that's what I do, it's not free, though). If you're a TAXI member, you get a free hosting page as well. Not sure if it starts when you join as they are rolling it out a bit at a time but I'm totally up on the progress with that. The TAXI pages are a popular option for linking songs as well.If you can encode your songs to mp3, you can find a free place to post them and then just paste the link in to the forum reply or new thread window.Hope this helps,Mazz

Thanks for the information sir! I just put the tunes on an FTP page of my website. The link is: www.audioammo.com/taxiforwards"The Promise" was forwarded for a NEW AGE SONGS & INSTRUMENTALS listing. "Ammotime" and "On The Edge" were forwarded for an EXTREME SPORTS INSTRUMENTALS listing. "Ammotime" was also forwarded for a SCIENTIFIC/MEDICAL INSTRUMENTALS listing. These tunes are really too short, but I was just experimenting with the submission process. Christian

Good job James. I'm pretty new too, and have had a little over 50% forwarded so far... some of that is because I was trying to determine the "quality threshold" for what gets through the screening. The first thing I submitted was forwarded and has since turned into a deal and the producer also asked me to write another custom piece for the same project. I was also forwarded on a listing that asked for past examples for a producer looking for guys to do pop/rock tracks for his artists, and I've done a couple tracks for him, but no completed stuff with a check yet... heh heh. But it's in the works. And on a few I haven't heard anything. And since then I've been swamped making a couple records with some bands and haven't had time to submit anything of late... Your stuff sounds good... I think you'll do fine. But, like most say, I don't think TAXI is a full time gig at the beginning.

Thanks Brian! Your information is very helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience! After reading many of the forum entries, it is a bit dissapointing to find that many have yet to realize the rewards despite the forwards and deals. Perhaps if we just keep trying, it will all pay off. Thanks Again Sir!Christian
