Four Year Update

Post by cosmicdolphin » Fri Dec 13, 2019 1:27 pm

Hey all

It will soon be 4yrs since I dipped my toe into the world of music licensing , just wanted to share where I am at now.

2016 - 87 cues produced - 1 Library Deal - Earnings £0

2017 - 70 cues produced - 2 Library Deals - Earnings - £50

2018 - 88 cues produced - 2 Library Deals - Earnings - £120

2019 - 50 cues produced - 2 Library Deals - Earnings - £720 ( mixture of Royalties - Sync Fees - Up front fees and blanket splits )

Total number of placements is now just over 30 from 295 cues in various Libraries.

Some of the main placements are here if anyone wants to listen : https://soundcloud.com/user-45178330/se ... eard-on-tv

I've had a few firsts this year. First cue used in a scripted drama and not just a reailty show which meant for the first time I got paid an up front sync fee which was a nice bonus. Added some new shows to my placement roster and some new countries as well. Also had music used on a show on Snapchat for the first time which I didn't even know was a thing.

Big shout out to my friends @Andygabrys and @Telefunkin that I made here on the forum who help keep me sane and still argue with me when I know I am right but have infinitely more muscial theory knowledge and playing chops than I ever will.

Mark

Hi Mark

Looks great, good trajectory! Also, massive output really, given you do all this on the side.

Question: Is 295 the # of cues in libraries, or the total number of cues you produced in 4 years, or is that actually the same number?
I guess I try to find out if the placements-to-#cues in library ratio is ca. 1:10, or higher.

Hope that question makes sense. :)

Hi Tom...yes it's the same number, so 295 tracks produced over the 4 yrs which are spread across 8 Libraries apart from a handful of new cues I am just working on.

There are 3 Libraries that are getting most of the placements though

Wow - essentially everything that was produced is now in libraries? Not too shabby! :)

Great to see that progress Mark, and thanks for the link to the tunes. It's always nice to hear what's getting used.
