Hey all!

Here's something I threw together today in hopes of making it time for the deadline tonight.

Let me know what ya think!

Thanks,

POSITIVE-SOUNDING FUTURE BASS INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a High-End Music Library with countless placements in BIG Feature Films, TV Shows, and Commercials.

They’re looking for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumental Cues that would fall in the general wheelhouse of the following references our client gave us:

Future Bass Example 1 - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rlm1bssid6nl ... 281%29.mp3

Future Bass Example 2 - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rlm1bssid6nl ... 282%29.mp3

Future Bass Example 3 - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rlm1bssid6nl ... 283%29.mp3

Please submit high-quality Future Bass Instrumental Cues that have modern, up-to-date instrumentation. Additionally, having innovative production techniques will likely help! Build your submissions around a catchy, central, melodic theme and keep it forward-moving by layering electronic elements in and out as your Cue progresses. You’d be wise to pay close attention to the continuous & subtle development of the reference tracks.

Quoting the Music Library: “It's fine to use vocal samples, but use them as an instrument - they should not be lead vocals, but rather musical elements in your arrangement.”

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please do NOT use any samples you don't have full clearance for.

All submissions should be approximately 2 minutes long, give or take. Good edit points (when possible) and Non-Faded, Buttoned/Stinger endings are preferred. Broadcast Quality is needed.

I went back and realized that I had some nasty clipping going on, and some issues with my bottom end. I'm hoping I got those fixed now, but my ears do a pretty good job of playing tricks on me consistently. :D

Track is ok, some nice sound ideas, but synths are a bit hollow sounding, the hats deffo feel really rigid and weak though, choice of sounds and maybe a little quantize would help.

I don't think the drums or hats sound particularly like Future Bass sounds, not sure if it's a usual style for you.

I nearly went for that one myself but didn't have time in the end.

Good Luck.

Appreciate the insight! It's a first for me, so I was flying blind a bit.

The synths were tough for me for sure. I attempted using Waves Codex, but was admittedly fumbling around with it quite a bit. I'm wondering if there is an easier/better way to get some nice full sounds.

I'll also check into some of the specifics of hat and drums sounds as a whole.

Thanks for the advice!

Andrew

Future Bass synths are all about layers mate, I tend to use about 3-5 on the main melodys to get the lush rich sounds. Serum is the go to Synth for Future Bass. :)

You've got a lot of the right ideas working, but the sounds and mix need work. I'll tell you what a well-respected Taxi vet told me a few years ago when I tried out my first EDM track. "Immerse yourself in the genre for a few days, or preferably a week if you can stand it. Listen to nothing else other than the genre you want to learn. Then give it a shot." This is incredibly sound advice.

Then, once you create a track be sure you do an A/B comparison against another track to compare the sounds of each element, the overall mix, etc. Future bass is a fun style, it has a ton of ear candy in it, but the most important thing to nail the genre is stylistically accurate synths. Check out YouTube for "how to make Future Bass synths/chords" and you will find a ton of good info

Keep it up!

Thanks Paulie!

I've been listening to some future bass here and there recently, but I like the advice a lot. I'll give it a shot!

Thanks,

Andrew

hmm Future Bass is pretty much of a mystery to me, but when I think of Future Bass tracks I think of a more open sound.

Mark Himley has a bunch of forwards on his soundcloud page, if I were attempting the genre I would study his tracks for sure.

best of luck!

Hey, Andrew! This post is a few weeks old but I stumbled upon a rent-to-own arrangement for Serum through Splice.com. It's $9.99/month, check it out!
