I just learned something I didn't know about the Gauge ECM-87. It's awesome.

Thanks for the heads up, Mark! Turns out my MXL V57M sounds godawful on the dreadnought. (okay for parlor guitar, though) It's nice to have budgetary options.

Well, in that case, how do these mics compare in the $150-$300 range?Rode NT1-AStudio Projects C1Blue BluebirdAKG Perception 220Shure KSM 27Audio Technica AT 2035As I may have said, I tried out Matto's Gauge ECM-87, and thought it sounded really good. I didn't hear the sibilance problem. But, geez, if you're going to buy ONE mic in this price range, there are a lot of options! I'd be willing to spend $150 more for a better microphone. Thanks in advance,Ern

They get pretty caustic over there...I still maintain these guys are great to work with and should not be insulted. I almost regret this thread, but I'd rather share comparative info with friends than insulate a business from criticism.By the way, I'm picking up a used MXLv67g...very similar style of mic, but a bit warmer and flatter response. I'll report on how it sounds eventually. About $100 new, same sort of capsule...but green and gold. Ooo, pretty!

Of course it's not the best mic in the world --- it's ridiculous to even think that.I don't know why some people have to get so aggressive and negative.Ern

Here's hoping.Yea, let's hope so! I'll bet it does. I still use a vintage Souncraft 16x4 mixer, and the preamps and EQ in this ol' guy are amazing! EVERYTHING that I record and mix go through this board.A few years ago, I went to Guitar Center to look at Mackie boards. The salesman asked me what I had been using. When I mentioned a vintage Soundcraft, he said "Forget the Mackie! Your board is miles beyond those!"It's nice to have an honest salesman occasionally --- Ern

Cause we usually make a big deal about not allowing that. Unless things have changed. We don't get many WORLD CLASS record producers hanging out much. So welcome to our forum. Steve

There are a lot of great musicians who have supported us and they deserve to know the truth. Just to prove I'm not selling anything, e-mail your address to me (rob@gauge-usa.com) and I'll send you a free mic. Let me know what you think of it. Cheers! RobAre you frikkin kidding me? Email's already on the way!
