Wrong, but I'm not about to educate you otherwise.

Do you actually know otherwise, or are you just being a smart guy? If so, share. I don't mind being "schooled". :D

There certainly are "Go-To" compossers. I did some work for a friend of mine who got commisioned to write 250 pieces for a company that handles several reality shows. It was too much for him to write all by him self so he enlisted a few composer friends. The company gave some creative direction (a-la's) as to what they wanted. If they liked the piece they paid a small upfront fee ($125) and it is pretty much a guarentee that they will then use the track on one of their shows. Then of course those shows always get re-aired.

He has been in negotiations with them for a similar arrangement that they have with a prime time network show as well. I thought the deal had been solidified but we still haven't gotten any creative direction yet. I'm eager to write tracks for this one since its Prime Time network.

So yes, these situations most certainly do exist and they can be quite fruitfull

Not a bad deal at all. The upfront fees aren't much, but your friend has steady work lined up. That is an enviable position to be in!
