Got a placement!

Post by Casey H » Mon Oct 30, 2006 12:58 pm

Hi allI placed the backing track to "Physical World" in a small indie film for $100 and credit. 2 things:Never overlook smaller opportunities unless you are already very successful and making a living in this business. (e.g. you don't need/want the credit or small fee)... Always have a copy of the backing tracks to your songs. They are often very pitchable for film/TV. As a matter of fact, when I was a TAXI member, I had a number of forwards with backing tracks. Casey

Very cool, Casey. Congrats. Good points - those smaller opportunities can add up...I got some extra money for providing underscore mixes for some tunes I placed with a library - it didn't double my income, but it was enough to make it worth my while. --dougQuote:Hi allI placed the backing track to "Physical World" in a small indie film for $100 and credit. 2 things:Never overlook smaller opportunities unless you are already very successful and making a living in this business. Congrats Casey...I agree that smaller opps can add up. In the beginning it may not be financially...but you have to start somewhere.Generally in tv/film though, it's much more likely that your income will be made up of many "smaller" placements rather than a few "big" placements. That's why it's important to really build a catalog of material, and give consideration to every opportunity that comes along.matto

This one is for an indie film, probably only going as far as a few festivals. Sometimes when I see posts on the boards, I get the feeling that a few folks want something big (either in money or prestige or both) or they don't care (e.g. some "low bar" TAXI leads)... I would have taken this for $0 as I have with others like it, just to get the credit. Thanks Matto and all my friends here for all your support! Casey

Congratulations! Those "small" fees add up pretty quickly over time - good advice not to overlook them because of the pay rate; your still getting some money and making contacts by using somthing you already have recorded!
