Greetings from Finland! (introduction)
Hello everybody! My name is Pekka (43y) and I'm from the northern parts of Finland. Yes, it can get very cold here.
I'm a photographer but my dayjob is a very specific type of photography - ophthalmological imaging for health care. That's where the paycheck comes from but I also do portraits and especially weddings. I'm a father of two amazing sons (10y and 13y) and a husband to a beautiful woman. We live in a house with a view over the Oulujoki valley. Right now the birds are migrating and we can hear the swans through our chimney when they fly over our house. Life here is pretty peaceful and safe and we have lots of clean nature around us to explore. Today we were marveling at beaver eaten tree trunks. Music has been my greatest passion since I joined my first band when I was fourteen.
I first learned about sync licensing a few years ago and felt really intrigued but couldn't get myself to it. My band was finishing up a release, we had gigs and I wanted to start making a full length album. It all seemed enough and I thought I wanted to keep music as a passionate hobby. But lately I've realized that I don't want to work at the hospital for the rest of my life when I could do the thing I love the most - MUSIC. I just needed to learn more and make a plan. Knowing myself I knew that if I just joined Taxi I would have to start working on it so that's what I did a week ago. Now I've been through a dozen Taxi TV episodes, countless forum posts and FAQ's and I'm starting to get the big picture together. And oh, I've recorded 5-6 cues and submitted my first piece to one listing. I'm quite sure it will not get forwarded but I needed to make that first throw to get a feel of the ball.
These next cues I'm working on are much more the type of music I love (alt rock/shoegaze/indie rock/post rock) but I'm having some trouble keeping out of writing songs vs. writing a cue. It's probably also the genre which doesn't lend itself that well for the cue format when there are usually long massive themes being developed for many many minutes. It feels weird knowing that the stuff is actually good but it won't necessarily fit this purpose but I'm also hoping that the screeners understand the context. I wish there was a chance to add a little info when submitting. Or are the track comments for that? Anyway, I'll just need to submit as many tracks as I can and then learn from the feedback and push away the feelings of rejection.
I'm at the very beginning of a very long and slow road but I'm ready for any amount of steps it's gonna take. Luckily I have a lot of experience in many different genres of music and also in the audio engineering side of things. I just need to get my mindset right for sync.
It's getting very late here, time to go to bed now. Hope to hear from many of you and maybe one day we'll see at the Road Rally!

Hi there! Believe it or not I'm 1/2 Finnish, my grandparents on my mother's side emigrated from Finland to northern Minnesota (basically Finland
) where my mother grew up. I'd love to visit Finland some day. Welcome aboard!

Greetings Pekka - from a 'lurker' (in The Peanut Gallery - as I usually write)...Phuovine wrote: ↑Sat Apr 19, 2025 2:04 pmI'm at the very beginning of a very long and slow road but I'm ready for any amount of steps it's gonna take. Good luck with all of THAT.

Nice! I know lots of Finns moved to Minnesota at some point and there are even some Finnish villages over there. I had relatives in Oregon and we visited them in the 90's but sadly they are now long gone. I'll be your guide if you ever decide to come here!

Thanks! Matt's music minute has been very useful too. His energy is sometimes too much for my dark Finnish soul but all the info, advice and tricks are very welcome.funsongs wrote: ↑Mon Apr 21, 2025 9:00 amGreetings Pekka - from a 'lurker' (in The Peanut Gallery - as I usually write)...Phuovine wrote: ↑Sat Apr 19, 2025 2:04 pmI'm at the very beginning of a very long and slow road but I'm ready for any amount of steps it's gonna take. This Forum seems pretty quiet, though. Is it always like this?

Re: Greetings from Finland! (introduction)
Well - you CAN use the "Settings" option (the little cog-wheel in the bottom tool bar) on the YouTube, and slow the playback down to a 'more calm'
setting - LOL: there really should be one with that label: but set at the 0.5 might sound more 'normal' to you.
These forums DO tend to be pretty quiet/laid back... it can sorta depend on the interest in the genre/listings that are IN PLAY.
The Peer-To-Peer board is where that activity can be helpful fine-tuning your tracks to try to meet the briefs.
Hope that helps.

I suspect all of the many other social media diversions have diluted this forum over the years. Way less traffic then there used to be.

Thanks Mary! I heard your singing in a few tracks and you sounded great. I might reach out to you if something needs female vocals. You can record yourself?
