If you've been writing for Epidemic for years, although the income model is different ( Buyout Vs Gratis + backend ) then you shouldn't really have much trouble writing for more traditional production music libraries as I imagine the catalogues are broadly similar ?

Be interested to hear about their model from someone who's been on the inside, I get the feeling they've been unfairly castigated because you can't be a PRO member if you write for them - Personally, although it's coming good now my first 5yrs earnings were dreadful and up to the last couple of years I always thought I'd have been better off just doing buyout deals but couldn't get in anywhere that offered them.

Yes, I think the reason all my submissions at taxi were returned is due to my straying from the brief. At Epidemic the briefs are meant to inspire so you can go off and capture the vibe using your own strengths. Obviously they wanted something in that ballpark but if you came up with something fresh and great it didnt matter if you strayed a little.

I enjoyed my time working there. Some really good people. I think now that this market is so saturated they’re probably much more hands on with composers. The briefs for me used to consist of Spotify playlists, usually of tracks that had a buzz going. I had no issue breaking with my PRO while I worked there. Im still collecting pretty great royalties from my catalog there.

Happy to answer any questions you might have!

The Taxi LIstings are quite prescriptive, more so than direct library briefs IMHO. But it trains you to stay on target. It's all good for building the catalogue though I guess. All my returns ended up in libraries eventually

Well the only things I have heard have been rumours - obviously only answer anything you are comfortable with answering but I've often wondered what rates they pay, how many tracks per year you can place with them etc ? DM me if you prefer.

But I find it weird that there is a such an anti Epidemic sentiment amongst the composer groups on FB etc. when AFAIK they pay their composers a reasonable amount up front.

Yes brother, I’m taking advantage of all the feedback and making my tracks better! You’re absolutely correct, a great strategy for building a strong catalog!

Will DM you regarding Epidemic!
