FWIW, a real amp has not been an option for me for a long time due to where I live. So I go: guitar -> tube preamp -> interface -> amp simSteveBaruah wrote:Just in case it's of any interest to anyone, I directly plugged my Elite Strat into my interface today and put Waves GTR Stomp on the track in Pro Tools. While not all presets are gold, some sound great! Who needs an amp!
(I will absolutely still buy an amp)
Guitar guys, DI/Emulated output OK?

Yeah, I reckon the upshot is that an amp and a mic are more a luxury than a necessity.

Re: Guitar guys, DI/Emulated output OK?
I have an original Marshall Jubilee 50/25, which I bought from new.
Used it a couple times to record about 15 years ago with a bunch of Boss pedals. But I the results were very good, from what I remember as I don't have any recordings for reference. However, I've been using modelers with keyboard amps most of the time since then. I had the Line 6, Boss GT-8, GT-10 and now a GT-100 all with not bad results and the occasional gem...
I do have those recordings. Then... I discovered Guitar Rig! Wow! I have not looked at another sim/modeller/amp since! It is absolutely fantastic and has been used on many, many hit records, so has a track record (but I'm sure the others have too). I always split the signal using a DI to get extra options when tracking.
which has come in handy a number of times.
You can use Guitar Rig live as well (with a laptop). May be worth a look: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/p ... rig-5-pro/
The next best plugin for me, was CLA guitars and then the GTR stuff...
However, I had a similar conversation with Telefunkin recently, so I might experiment with my amp again (if it still works!
)
I've always wanted to try the amp load device but found them too expensive when I looked. I might have another look now that it's been mentioned.
Anyway food for thought!

I have since got CLA guitars which is insanely good. I have the Guitar Rig demo but not properly played with it yet. I'm amazed how good these things sound.
