Hallowed GroundI had two weeks comin', was set to see the House of Mouse'stead I tuned up my ol' Harley, and hit the highway southfin'lly stopped at a tavern, outside San Antonethe walls had charcoals n paintings, of heroes from long agoI had two or three tequilas, then left that old saloonfound that holy mission, haloed by the moonnow maybe that tequila, just went to my headbut somehow 'round midnight, whisp'ring breezes saidthis is hallowed groundwhere my brothers and I were killedso stay loyal to this soil'cause now you've seen that all your dreams are builton hallowed groundI took mostly backroads, cutting through the southmet farmers who get stronger within, the more they go withoutsaw scarecrows grasping at straws, in dry August windthe only wings near their dead fields, were weather roosters made of tinas I got deeper in Dixie, I saw plaques along the roadsidetelling of history's birth, and its fathers who diedone time the grass turned crimson, in Virginia at sunsetI heard footsteps behind me, and those phantom boots saidthis is hallowed groundwhere my brothers and I were killedso stay loyal to this soil'cause now you've seen that all your dreams are builton hallowed groundI learned on my journey, some believe what they're toldbut mister I've come to believe, what my heart beholdsand martyrs in these borders, martyrs on distant sandsmake ev'ry inch of this nation's landhallowed groundhallowed ground(c)2006 Robert George
