HAPPY, FEEL-GOOD INSTRUMENTALS for KIDS PROGRAMMING- Help/Feedback
Hi
I would really appreciate some feedback on my first draft of this kids instrumental piece. I think the instrumentation is OK, based on the ref. tracks? I'd appreciate comments on the mix and overall developmental feel of the track in particular as I feel this is where I could improve!
My track - https://soundcloud.com/rachel-marshall- ... al_sharing
Reference tracks:
Just Kidding
https://youtu.be/jvZI9Ba9wEU?t=123
Andi Mack
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5j7cCLBkXkM
The Baby-Sitters Club
https://youtu.be/z_f-oQI6HCg?t=268
Criteria states 2-4 Minutes in length. I have gone for around 2:40.
Many thanks
Rachel

Hey Rachel -- there are lots of cool parts going on in this track, and I agree with Telefunkin's comments about the mix and need for some variation and edit points. Here's a video (by Dave Kropf at 52 Cues) about cue structure that was/is helpful for me: https://youtu.be/PM1slrenAHUhttps://you ... M1slrenAHU. Keep working on this, it's a good foundation! Good luck, Doug

Hiya, I'd lean away from the delay on the guitar. It's a bit too over-powering. Sounds quite a bit like U2 in parts (bloody Edge ruining delayed guitars for everyone).
The palm mutes are fine, maybe replace the opening riff with acoustic guitars, gives you layers as well as variety.
I would say the drums could do with a bit of work as well, they're quite low in the mix. I used to be terrible with drums, because I'm a guitarist I always had that front and centre until a Trailer friend of mine told me to "listen to some rock and note how loud the drums are". It's quite surprising, we remember the melody but the rhythm is thing that's always most prominent.
Love the Xylophone, nice changes here and there to avoid repetition. With a bit of extra push I think you'll be good.
The guys are bang on with edit points as well, I have them in every submission now.

I think it's much too repetitve , it reminds of a bunch of Apple loops thrown together more than a composed piece of music ..if you skip around the track it's just more or less the same thing all the way through

Maybe at the edit points, transition with some kind of "fun" sound? A whoosh or swoosh or something?
