Has anyone heard about a service called Syncrunner?

Post by CsFire » Thu Dec 12, 2024 8:08 am

I'm getting the feeling that Taxi might indeed be one of a kind. And not a bad place to be =) I came across a service called Syncrunner.com. I actually went as far as submitting a few links just to be considered. Few weeks later i got an email saying that their join up fee is 250 bucks. I thought maybe in addition to using Taxi i could also consider another service.
I actually even got a pritty nice email from them that felt quite personally crafted which was nice. However I wanted to do a little more digging online about them and was unable to come across really anything at all online which i felt was very odd. Definitely raised some red flags for me. Just wanted to find some reviews, testimonials etc, but nothing. So i might let this one slide I think but was curious to find out if anyone knew anything more about it. May very well be a scam site too. Their instagram also had a very small following. I had also been using Broadjam but have been very dissapointed with them. Wont go into details but yeah think i am wasting my money with them. Anyhoo, thanks for any thoughts. C

Never heard of 'em. If their socials are pretty sparse with followers, that's probably a sign that they are fairly new to the world. And the fact they sent you a very personalized email - though flattering - is also a sign that they've got too much time on their hands.... not a good sign, when you think about it. My guess is it's a Taxi knock-off. Why waste your money when you have the real thing right here?

FWIW, these Taxi knock-off's come and go fairly regularly. There was one for a while that was all the rage called "Hit License" (anyone remember that one?), that was actually a free sign-up with $5 submissions. Quite a few Taxi people tried it out, simply due to the free sign-up. I do remember one guy getting something from it, for like a $250 sync in a small little production.

But overall, they just relied on flashy pictures and imagery to get people to send in $5 submissions. My guess is they just scoured Taxi listings, re-wrote what they saw, put a fun picture alongside it, and then let it run. Which means, if my assumptions are correct, they didn't know who in the hell the Taxi listing was for, and they wouldn't have known who to send "forwarded" music to... Which really meant they were just pocketing $5 submission fees as a get-rich-quick scheme by pilfering Taxi listings, and music actually went nowhere. People had no idea who was screening those things, or even IF there was a screening process. It was probably just a scammy cash-grab, with a few legit opps just to keep a carrot dangled in front of their members.

Their website was completely anonymous, with no faces, no names, and no contact information. And now, all these years later, that company is vanished into the abyss. Taxi, on the other hand, is stronger than ever, and completely transparent. If you want to call them, their number is on their website. If you want to talk to the owner - Michael Laskow - he'll happily answer your phone call. That's the difference between a legit company, and a scam.

I'm not saying that's what's up with this company you mentioned, but I personally wouldn't waste my money on them.

Apply today to become a SyncRunner member! Once selected, pay the one-time $249 admin fee.
I just took a quick look at their site. I agree with MVB, don't waste your money. I don't see much transparency as to what happens after you get accepted and pay.

Red Flag: Their website bills them as a "One Stop Sync Licensing Agency." One stop sync licensing agencies make their revenue on splitting sync fees for placements and sometimes PRO share as well. I'm signed with a few and none of them have a fee to the composer. They will either accept or reject your tracks (usually VERY selective) based on whether or not they feel they can place them with their clients.

Now that we are on the topic.....What are the opinions about "That Pitch?" I know a couple of Music Supervisors that vouch for them, but it kinda seems a little "too good to be true" They "autopitch" your tracks to a bunch of libraries, so you simply "submit and forget" and there are no briefs..... I haven't even heard of some of these libraries that they use (which means absolutely nothing, because I am relatively new to this game lol)

In any case, I am eager to hear anyone's thoughts on "That Pitch?" Oh, and Happy Holidays!
