Having trouble playing songs????

Post by mrsunshine » Sat Jul 26, 2008 7:51 am

...if your having trouble downloading and listening to 'peers' songs, try this:If you are using Firefox:1.) Click on Tools in the menu bar at the top of your browser (right under the blue 'title bar')2.) Select 'Options...' at the bottom of the drop down menu3.) Highlight (click on) the icon that says 'Applications' at the top of the menu box 4.) Scroll down until you see 'MP3 Format Sound'Now over on the right side you should be seeing 'Use QuickTime PlugIn 7.2 (In Firefox)'...if not, you have the ability to click on the downward shaped arrow to select the program you want to use to play the MP3s (which in this case is QuickTime)...In Internet Explorer:1.) Click on Tools in the menu bar at the top of your browser (right under the blue 'title bar')2.) Click on 'Internet Options...' at the bottom of the drop down menu3.) Highlight the 'Programs' tab at the top of the menu box4.) Click the 'Manage Add-ons...' button near the bottom5.) Scroll down until you see 'Quicktime Object'Now click on 'Quicktime Object' once just to highlight it (it should turn blue). Make sure in the 'Settings' at the bottom is clicked 'Enable'. If it's enabled and your still not getting anything try to click the 'Update ActiveX' button (the button may not be available if your already updated). If you don't have some of these buttons, options, etc...this may be part of the problem. If everything is there and updated, then it's obviously something else Hope this helps at least some....ChuckPS...if this gets you going, you can listen to my Haunting tune in the 'Peer to Peer' section and give me some feedback

I used the above instructions in Firefox to reset MP3 play to the default. (Spressa Play & Record, on my machine) I now have my preferred Windows Media Player back, though I now have to wait a few moments for the download. Now Taxi hosting, Myspace and Soundclick work fine, and Broadjam works 'bout every other day. (sigh)

Odd, the application icon is not in my tool menu in Firefox. I have different choices in options. It is the latest update, so I wonder what else one can do? My choices under tools >options areMAIN TABS CONTENT FEED PRIVACY SECURITY ADVANCED (I don't know how to do the pretty pictures.)

I'm currently using Firefox 3.0 (if you're using a previous version, you will need to go to Mozilla's website and download the newest version...updating your current Firefox version will not bring it up to 3.0)...Chuck

Interesting. I was on 2.0 version so I upgraded. I got the latest iTunes (quicktime) as well. I changed the setting as you suggested, except that it didn't say MP3 format, it had the name of another player I use, and still when I click on link Chuck sent me for some tunes I get nothing. It says "DONE". I enabled popups for taxi even.

That's probably at least some of your problem...it will have to say 'MP3 Format' on the left because that is what our Taxi files are coded in (MP3s)...Basically, the left side of that window tells what kind of format your clicking on, downloading, etc - the right side of that window tells Firefox which program to use to access it. If yours doesn't say 'MP3 format', Firefox is probably not recognizing the MP3s...Chuck

Okay, that makes sense. How do I add MP3 format? I already have one or two that mention mp3s, but in other contexts.

By the way, I appreciate the info very much.I went to the Firefox knowledgebase and it was somewhat less than useful and informative.
