hello..or something..
Been lurking for a week while I gather the scratch to join taxi. After spending way too much time on local and other music messageboards..with people who would rather argue or brag {rather than work on their craft}...I have to say it's refreshing to see people actually talk about constructive things..i've ALREADY learned alot here..I write & record often....my goal is to get songs placed in film & Tv. I've had some success with some upcoming indie films, student films & docs...but no $...i've also come to the conclusion that pretty much any indie filmmaker worth anything knows they can get quality indie music for free..and that's why i'm joining, maybe taxi can expose me to leads I couldn't find otherwise..I describe what I do as moody melancholy songs with a bit of garage rock mixed in..been @ it for about 15 years..self taught, play out electric w/band and solo acoustic sparingly but write & work on improving my craft daily..currently working on a new record @ a friends studio..I have 2 sites.. http://www.myspace.com/liteboxtherapy {sorry but it's free} & http://www.soundclick.com/lightboxtherapy {main site}i'm not looking for reviews or anything..just trying to introduce myself before I join the discussion..but of course..if you have something nice to say..i'm all ears later..john

Welcome aboard, John. The forum is a great resource.... glad to see you here. I recommend signing up to get the Taxi listings (it's free) twice monthly so you can see what kind of opportunities are out there before you join. It's a great idea to pick a listing, post it, and post a link to the song you're thinking of submitting for it... and see what advice you get.cheersHummin'bird

Hey john! Welcome to TAXI & the forums! It's the best money I've ever invested in my career - you're making a wise choice. And yep, the forums are typically bad attitude free - towards each other - it's pretty cool. I've very seldom read discouraging stuff from member to member. Those that do go there typically don't stay long, thankfully. And I have to say, as a writer for tv, that there are a LOT of opportunities for placements here. These opportunities, both the big and small, are real. There is a learning curve though - the bar is high - so don't get discouraged if there is a lack of forwards at first. The screeners are smart people that know our genres well & the forum is a great place for feedback and camaraderie.Welcome! cb

I'd recommend you also go there and do a little listening & commenting on other folk's music as well.If you haven't already read it, this thread is a good intro to the forum:http://taxi.proboards27.com/index.cgi?b ... 086looking forward to hearing your work, cheersHummin'bird

Re: hello..or something..
thanks Vikki...and thanks for the myspace friend thing - I have dialup and and couldn't listen to any of your music..that also makes it hard to listen & comment on other folks stuff as well..but i'll take my laptop down to a local coffee shop w/wifi and try & do some of that..I did read the thread you mentioned..quite informative
