Hello....
I am thinking of joining TAXI as a way to get some of my other compositions heard. I am a SOLO Instrumental Guitarist with a couple CD's out and a third do out in Feburary. I write alot of music, songs as well as instrumental compositions. It would be great to get them in other Artists/Labels hands as well as music for Film/TV or even some scoring work. I would like to get some of your feed-back, and opinions on Taxi. Also, if you have success stories with Taxi - let me know. I have been reading some posts on here but, would like to know more. Anyone got any basic level $$$$ amounts say for placements in the different catagories? Say like Library, TV/Film, Label, Artists, ect.... Just like to look into things - wanna make sure it is a move that will be a possitive one. Thank You for your time. ROCK ON!

It's impossible to say how much money one piece of music will make you, or how much one deal with a music library will make you. Every placement is different, and it can range from $0 + film credit to a decent licencing fee + royalties, and everything in between. There have been posts about specific placements & specific earnings, information volunteered by the songwriters concerned, you'd have to search for them. From all I've read and experienced, if you plan to make a large amount of money with your music in the short term you will likely be very disappointed. It takes years of dedicated pitching of good/great compositions to have your cataloque working for you. Check out the Matt Hirt video's on Taxi's YouTube page - they are very informative. For example, I got my first deal in June 2007, that piece is being pitched for appropriate opportunities by the publisher. It may be pitched for several months before it lands a deal. The publisher reports to me every 6 months. Even if the piece was placed this month, I would not likely know about it until June 2008, and my royalties would come from my PRO, likely in late 2008. I continue to grow my cataloque & hope to grow my placement ratio as well, over the next 4 years.I'm not trying to be discouraging, just trying to give you a sense of the long-term thinking that is required in this business. On the good side, solo guitar music is very marketable, and if your production is great, and you plan long-term, then joining Taxi might be a positive move.cheersHummin'bird

Re: Hello....
hey slinger,I just listened to a couple of your pieces on your website. you've got some good technical skills.if you're interested in doing library-stuff you might take a listen to examples actually used by libraries. there is always a demand for well crafted guitar driven tracks - just google a library & listen to their stuff. you need to understand the arrangement and production of such music.taxi is a VERY great tool to jump in the library market - I'm a guitarist myself and have had about 10 deals so far and I also made quite a bit money from several placements, in a little more than a year membership. having said that, that's not the average I guess - when I joined taxi I already did my homework and did get forwards from the first submission on - and I've submitted A LOT, in diffrent styles.I think you have the instrumental skills, no question. if your willing to learn, to develope your tracks to be more suitable for film/tv, you'll get your chance. and taxi can help you with all of that (learning through critiques, forwarding your music, providing information, etc)....oh yes: whatch the videos on youtube ("taximusic") from matt hirt, he explains the whole library-thing very well & understandable.cheers, martin

Hi guitarslinger, Welcome! There have been many posts on this board about those kinds of topics. You will probably enjoy this one (scroll down at bit to find what Steve called "Nomi's Excellent Questions, and Matto's Excellent Description"). There's a TON of great information in this post, and it might be right in line with what you are seeking:http://taxi.proboards27.com/index.cgi?a ... page=5Good to have you among us! Raags

Re: Hello....
Hey everyone - thank you for your feedback. gitarrero, thanks for your feedback as well. I was starting not concider any library stuff as from what I have read from people on here they do not pay very well - if anything at all. So, I take it you have made some good $$$$ thru the Library route? What are some of the deals you have gotten? (if you do not mind me asking). The stuff you listened to is my SOLO music - stuff I would submitt would be written more for that nitch - unless I felt some of my SOLO Instrumental music fot with what they were looking for. Anyway - I will continue to look into this and will probably bite the bullet here after I get back from the show in L.A. I might do it before I head out there but, we will see.... Any other help and/or advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: Hello....
hey guitarslinger--I just got another forward, so I was looking at my numbers. I've been a member for about 14 months now. I've had 25 forwards out of 85 submissions with no contacts yet for any actual placements. That's $425 for submissions plus two years of membership fees, plus I've had dispatch since August of this year (2007), so I'm closing in on the $1000 mark. Many members will say you shouldn't try to calculate a return on investment too early since it can take a few years to really get things rolling and, as always, your mileage may vary. (For example Martin, aka "gitarrero" has been getting lots of deals, but from what he posted in another thread he said he was really prepared when he joined Taxi, and his tracks sound fantastic so I can see why he's getting a lot of placement.)It is always smart to do some research, so I hope my info helps out a little.Good Luck--
