Here's a twist you may not have thought of.
This reminds me of "Blackmore's Night" (Richie Blackmore of Deep Purple and His wife Candice).
Sort of Celtic, Mideviel, Classical.
If you added some percussion to give it that groove.

geir, in response to your question regarding groove/instrumentation, listen to alicia keys, toni braxton, jeffery osborne, luther vandross, james ingram...who are all blends of r&b with adult comtemporary. you'll start to get ideas.

Geir, I think you have great comments here. I liked the song a lot even though I don't know what to add. I really liked 1:50 to 2:10 and the classical guitar after. Nice wrapping up with that progression at the end again. Really nice song. Almost a tragic sound to it.

Thank you all for your comments.

Kolstad: Yes, I have submitted to a couple of listings (for adult contemporary). One screener claimed that the song was "jazz based" and "leaning towards jazz". Another claimed that it was retro pop. So what can I say ...? So yes, I did "write, submit, repeat and forget" until I had completely forgotten the song before I decided to ask you guys for guidance.
RockChild: That is a very interesting twist indeed!!
Richard: Thanks. These are excellent references for what you suggested.
And thanks Bob for your nice words.

You've given me a lot to think about.
Thank you!

Geir

I'd say this is a Classical Crossover/Adult Contemporary song.

As for contemporary artists that would sing this...I'm thinking Lea Michele (Rachel from Glee.)
