Typical generic response:
Success is a subjective term. You have to define success first. Also, it is not wise to ask about numbers and money. Seems a bit personal, don't you think. Success is going to be different for everybody, so you need to decide what success means to you first. Good luck!

There is a wealth of great information early in this thread, much of it provided by Matt Hirt. It goes back to 2007! Still very valuable-- a primer on how we get paid for our music. :D The one thing that may have changed in 5 years is the amount paid for licensing fees. As we know, that has diminished some.

I strongly recommend going back to the beginning and reading, especially Matt's long, detailed posts.
